I use and like my Boss NS2, keeps things nice and neat imo.

    Krammer guitar

Kramer made some awesome guitars and basses, and a lot of crap ones too. I love them, but they continue to smear their own name with poor quality products (they are now owned by gibson who aren't doing them any favours). Realistically an older (pre 90's) US, Canadian or Japanese Kramer will hold...

    String muting in the studio

On our last recording I did the old sock around the neck for solo thing on a couple of songs (obviously where there wasn't open notes in the solos). Can remember taping off unwanted strings with electrical tape at times for rhythm bits, but by and large we just played "normally". At the end of...

    cheer up everybody

Way to be depressing dude String sound sounds pretty keyboardy, maybe some reverb on them to smooth it out? Might just be the mp3 talking. Otherwise stay minor for 10 more minutes, modulate, cry, done.

    Floyd rose tremolo troubles

Pretty much. While I'm all for swapping blocks and feel good feng shui upgrades, it is polishing a turd compared to a proper floyd rose. While the block is a big part of it, there's other things to consider and there's a reason why everyone copies the original. I've got a bunch of guitars with...

    Floyd rose tremolo troubles

I'll put my chips down as saying they do improve things, at least for the bulk of licensed floyds which come with zinc/pot metal blocks as stock. There's a noticeable improvement in response when you upgrade them to actual metal. That said, with OFRs, replacing the stock steel with brass or...

    Floyd rose tremolo troubles

Wait, 1/8inch screws are too big?! Are you fitting it to a proper floyd rose original or something else? Are you sure the screw/holes are the problem? Or is it more that they are not spaced the same? I'll assume you have checked all this so really my only advice would be to hand ream the holes...

My guitar emits a buzz? Wtf?

It could be pretty much anything causing the interference. Single coils hum a bit more than humbuckers (duh) but a well sheilded and grounded strat shouldn't be too bad. Read up on shielding your guitar (google it) to cut down on the hum (using conductive paint or copper tape or even foil)...

Help me buy a guitar $1000

I think he was just saying he likes the neck pickup further away from the bridge one because it gets more of the string vibration...which I can see up to a point (the higher you play the less accurate the idea becomes). The harmonic node thing I am leaving alone.

Help me buy a guitar $1000

Don't know if you like the idea of an old guitar, but there's some nice Ibanez Roadstar II's that have 25.5 scale length. Steve Lukather model in particular.. I know it's got a trem (but you don't want it to float anyway cos of the design). Ebony fretboard and birdseye maple on basswood. I have...

Yucky ringing noise from guitar strings

It shouldn't matter. Stay with your preferred brand and gauge of strings. Really generally speaking, I find heavier gauges can go lower (actionwise) than light ones, but there's too many variables like scale length, tuning, pick attack etc etc to say "yes for sure thicker strings buzz less"...so...

Help me buy a guitar $1000

Why only 22 frets? Just wondering. How about going to Warmoth and building yourself? I know you just said you're wary of buying a guitar you've never played, but you are limiting yourself with your requirements to a pretty small pool of commercially available guitars.

Yucky ringing noise from guitar strings

JCM8000 :) For my attempt at being helpful; it sounds like you know what fret buzz sounds like, and you have another strange sound you can't identify. You've ruled out sympathetic buzz at the headstock. You've ruled out the nut. Leave the truss rod as it is. It's only there to adjust neck...

Gots Me A New Gee Tar

Nice guitar man. There is just something about the real deal when you find one that suits you. It's funny how until you get a Gibson that really speaks to you, you'll write them off until you're blue in the face. Too expensive, Epi's can be made just as well, too fragile, too common, blah...

    Help please: tuning/set-up question

Will all due respect, that's not an experiment. Poor quality tuners can be a bit wobbly or loose, they can feel cheap and have a bad ratio, but they won't slip, they can't.
