    Mic positions on drums

I've never tried the STT but I've got my own way of blending samples in with live drums. I use Smart Electronix's KTDrumTrigger. It's free but don't let that fool you, it's very powerful: I know I've mentioned it before but I find it useful because I can use any drum sampler like...

    Mic positions on drums

If I can jump in there, I must admit it's a first for me to read that bottom-miked toms "cut through the mix". The bottom head is the resonant head so generally, and from my experience, there's nothing but resonance down there. However, when I thought about it, depending on how the rest of...

    Recording in a cold room

Yeah, it may even help prolong the life of your equipment because they will run cooler than in a warmer room. Heat and electronics are not friends. Cheers :)

    Volume level at recording

Agreed but I still think the affects of clipping the analogue stage will be far more damaging than simply lopping off the top of the waveform, which is what digital clipping does. Analogue clipping comes with all sorts of harmonic artifacts and distortion as it's gradual instead of a "cliff...

I'm getting crazy on mixing post-hardcore guitars!

I just want to point out that getting a particular guitar sound is highly dependent on the interaction between the player and the "sound" of the guitar/amp. Reamping gets gets mixed results because the interaction gets nullified. Also, sim amps can be a pain in the ass, particularly for heavy...

    Volume level at recording

Digital clipping is incredibly difficult, if not impossible to do in a 32-bit floating point system which is what the majority of DAWs are these days. My point is that almost all clipping you'll experience is from slammed levels being output at the D/A which then, in turn, clips the analogue...

    Cubase SE3: Side-chain processing??

Nope, no sidechaining in Cubase until 4 or 5. Cheers :)

My UAD-1 dilemma: not a happy customer

Both cards are legitimately transferred to my account. Cheers :)

My UAD-1 dilemma: not a happy customer

Dude, your analogy is flawed. I am not asking for an upgrade. I am asking for them to WORK AS INTENDED.

How Does Panning Work in Regard to Analog Summing?

A few summing boxes have got pan controls, most don't. The Tonelux OTB16 has got panners, but the Dangerous 2 Bus does not, only mono buttons. It just depends which suits your workflow better. Cheers :)

My UAD-1 dilemma: not a happy customer

Well I found this on the UA FAQ site: So is this what happened to me? I don't understand how when we transferred the licenses the two plugins in question got lost. I also still don't get how if the plugins are hard-encoded to the card and I get to use them legitimately every day that I don't...

My UAD-1 dilemma: not a happy customer

I disagree. And I'm not going out of my way, Farview. I just simply never had need for more of their plugins. I have, for the most part, been using the same collection of plugins for years now and they're just fine, imo. I would have never gotten the cards had I not bought my studio partner...

    8 channel Audio Interface

They're pretty comparable units but the MOTU has more outputs and doesn't have MIDI. Do you need 32 outputs? I would most likely get the Focusrite. Cheers :)

My UAD-1 dilemma: not a happy customer

It doesn't matter, they're in the same hardware group. Whether one is PCI or PCI-e should be irrelevant. Well, I didn't see the legacy plugins on their website. They only had the new 1176 and LA-2A versions up on there. Cheers :)

    Magnifier in cubase

Windows has a built in magnifier but I don't know if it's like the one you saw in the vid. Cheers :)

My UAD-1 dilemma: not a happy customer

But that's the point. The other card is PCI-e. I want the plugins authorized on that card as well. It's a matter of principle. I bought a UAD-1 card with the plugins authorized on it. I should be able to use them with both cards because they are in the same hardware group. Cheers :)

My UAD-1 dilemma: not a happy customer

Hi guys, I have a dilemma with my UAD-1 system and I thought I would share it on here to find out if anyone else has had the same issue. Now, before you jump on me and tell me to upgrade, I am fully aware that the UAD-1 is old and unsupported. Regardless, I have a few UAD plugins that I use...

    Using a Pre-amp in a Guitar Tube amp as a Microphone Pre-amp

Yup, I was just going to say that. If you run a tube amp without a speaker (load) attached, you will blow your output transformer and maybe more. Believe me, I speak from experience. Cheers :)

Automatically Muting an Instrument Track When MIDI Notes Aren't Playing

Automate the mute button? Press "W", write your mutes and then disable "W". Make sure the "R" button is green thereafter. Cheers :)

Is there still an advantage for hardware DSP like in Pro Tools HD systems?

The biggest advantage for Pro Tools TDM and HD|X systems has always been zero latency monitoring with processing on input. You need a pretty beefy machine to do that natively. Cheers :)
