    Strings

10-46 on Electric. Ernie Ball Slinky's are usually on special here. Trying out some Standard Elixir's on bass. They are extra slippery which is both good and bad. Some of my fellow bass colleagues dont like them as although they last longer, when they lose their coating, they go feral pretty...

    Low-Watt tube recording amp

For a low watt amplifier that sounds amazing, something like a Fender Deluxe or Princeton would be the go.

    Gibson L-1

These guys are probably your best bet: Matt Umanov Guitars - Vintage Guitars Since 1965 Have purchased a couple of nice guitars and basses off Matt over the years. Matt is surprisingly pleasant to deal with, and would is a wealth of knowledge for historical guitars.

    v-drums

I have the TD15K and they sound great. I am not sure how much you can upgrade things. Depends on the kit. For example, for $600, I can go and buy the proper hi-hat and stand rather than the simulated one. Either way, they still sound great. Really impressive unit.

    Fender - Not so impressed....

In any industry, taking a brand and making cheap versions of it can ruin the image of the brand. Just like Toyota being a cheaper car, customers will not pay top dollar for that name because it is a fairly non-luxury brand. So Toyota bought Lexus as their luxury name. Gibson and Fender also...

    squire telecaster custom

Indonesian Tele's are made with Agathis for the body. Cort made these for Squire from the early 2000's before Fender opened a factory there in 2008. If it sounds good, you have a great value guitar.

Poll: Most Overrated Guitar Player OAT

*calorific Caloric is a thermodynamic term. But I did lol! Slash is a great guitar player, and has amazing tone due to him handpicking his amps from a large list of contenders before he plays them for a recording. He is a bit like Billy Gibbons. The end result is amazing tone. The other...

    For new guitarists.

There is a book for reading I found very useful when starting the guitar: William Leavitt - Modern Method for Guitar (Berklee College of Music) The book start's off in the open neck position and then slowly work's it's way up the neck in different keys. Highly recommended for those who intend...

    Jason Thomas

The thing I find amazing about his playing is that you dont even realise he is banging the sticks, and then when the video flicks back to him, he is going 1,000 miles an hour on a cymbal ride with a single snare beat thrown in as an accent. It is so subtle. That would have to be close to the...

Where can I find more drumming from this guy: Marcus Miller - Estival Jazz Lugano 2008 - YouTube Jason Thomas is his name, and have been really impressed with the way he plays, especially from this concert with Marcus Miller. Just an inspiring performance on the sticks. Well recorded...

    The Top Guitar Amp Brands

The Vibrolux and Deluxe Reverb's are beautiful 1960's amps which are in great demand even as reissue models. There is a rash of new amps out there in the market though which are great quality. Two-Rock Amplification Two Rock make some nice stuff. Marshall and Peavey should also be up near...

Adding veneer to my old bass

This process, like any other adventurous alteration applied to bass guitars, is going to be a steep learning curve. It's probably best to do it on a Yamaha first to get some runs on the board. Very envious, because I wish I could sand back guitars and basses, and paint them and then apply...

    Bad intonation with compensated nut?

This is why a capo up the neck on an acoustic sounds so good. You get used to people holding the high chords with their fingers, and they cannot fret 4-5 strings correctly, therefore it sounds OK but never sounds quite right. Then you listen to open chords played with a capo in the higher frets...

    Whats everyone using for amps?

That is a pretty cool poll for a forum. Normally, you can only select one. For guitar, Fender Deluxe Reverb combo and a Marshall JCM 900. For bass, Genz Benz GBE head's & Uber 8*10 cab. For a home studio, I guess weight is not that much of an issue as that head is pretty heavy. Genz Benz...
