    Wider guitars?

It ain't just you. I was waiting for him to "strike the pose" at the end. :laughings:

    Wider guitars?

For me, two mono tracks, and as has been said more than once, recorded in two separate performances is the ONLY way to go. One panned hard left and the other panned hard right is the best way I've found to consistantly reproduce good sound. In my set-up, I've dedicated one mic for the left and...

Can you call it a studio without a console?

Lots of very good points made in this thread. There are certainly many very experienced folks here on this board from which I've learned a lot over the years popping in from time to time. Personally, I like this post the best. It is "after all", what we're "all after" anyway isn't it...

    The truest Headphones

AKG's While they're discontinued, I'm partial to my AKG K271's. Tried a few others but they really color the sound to much for me. I know there are better ones out there if you're willing to pay the price but I really like these for the budget minded home studio. One man's opinion...

How do I produce a mix on my desk to go to Nuendo?

I don't know you so I have no reason to accuse you of anything but I fell for this once. I bought a "Legal" CD of Cubase SX off of eBay once and got screwed. Legal my ass. This was when I was just building up my studio and was quite naive. I felt really proud of myself until it crashed my...

for those of you who own a DMP3....

Yes I Own One But mine doesn't do what you describe so I'd take it back and you should have no issue getting a new one to replace it. "Materials & Workmanship" is what this sounds like. And speaking of the VU meters, when the light bulbs burn out, you're screwed. The bulb is integrated into...

I've come to the conclusion that a studio sound is only found in ... a studio

That is SOOOOO true!!! You get a live sound you like on an amp with the pre-gain set at maybe 7, sure that may work for some solo work but when playing back what you recorded, it's nothing but a fuzz box. Especially when playing power chords. Turn it down to 4 or so, eq the mid's up a bit...

    Condenser or Dynamic?

Balanced vs Unbalanced When you say adaptor, you don't mean to change it from a balanced to unbalanced connector do you? It's amazing how bad a good mic will sound if you do that. I ran across a friend who had some old Shure 515SB's with the cords adapted down to unbalanced 1/4" TS jacks...

    New Low-Cost Desk by Homestudioguy

And It Comes With A Lava Lamp Actually, to use a well worn phrase, "function over form", or looks for that matter. For those who are simply interested in getting a system or environment to work for you rather than have a polished, slick & laminated look, this does the trick. I actually popped...

    Recording Muliple Tracks

Well, I'm still using Cubase SL 2.0, (ancient I know), but I'm sure the same applies with newer versions. Check your VST connections for routing and then make sure each track has the correct input selected.

    Drum Software/Machine Recommendations

Groove Agent I've been using Steinberg's Groove Agent for a couple of years now and it's great. It works smoothly within Cubase and is a dream to program in MIDI. You can run each drum/cymbal out any of 4 channels for processing independantly so it's darn near like the real thing. Actually...

How Many Soundcards In Your PC?

Speaking of Multiple Sound Cards... Not to hijack the topic here but I've got a question about more than one sound card. I'm currently running an M-Audio OmniStudio to a Delta 66 sound card and want to increase my input capability. Does anybody know if I can add an M-Audio Octane connected...

doubling your voice in a song

I Like This Technique I stumbled on this technique a while back and love it. I'll usually leave the "center" of the three tracks unaltered and attenuated lower than the other two. I'll pan one track hard left and boost at 500Hz and cut at 2kHz. I'll then pan the third one hard right, cut at...
