    Bach Invention

I can't remember his name right off but there is another not famous guy who does a lot of jazz standards in a similar method. He has long dark hair and makes a lot of ridiculous faces, typically uses a playing card to mute his strings. Maybe it will come back to me.

    Marshall vs Marshall: JCM800 4010 vs MA50C

Out of those options....JCM 800 all the way. The most important thing is that it is going to retain some value. Once you save some more cash....have it modded by Voodoo Amps in NY and enjoy pure rock bliss.

Getting thick/wet/fuzzy/dreamy distortion without losing the guitar melody

Drew is right on the money. Layering is going to be your friend for that type of tone.

Guitar amps that wives will let you keep in the living room

I must be doing something right. I have what is supposed to be our "dining room" as my band room in our house. Not to mention my wife encouraged me to buy my ENGL amp because it "looked cool" hahaha.

    Octave pedal?

I actually have a Digitech Whammy but don't like it being in my signal chain. The built in gain knob really mucks up my distorted tone. My bassist has an MXR Blue box and it sounds good but like you pointed out, only does octave down. I'll check out the french toast but I never dug the build...

    Valveking footswitch

I would pick up a project enclosure from any one of the online DIY pedal shops. They are really cheap and will outlast a wood case.

    Valveking footswitch

It should work no problem. You can even add led indicators and stuff if you want to get fancy. I built a custom switcher for my Engl amp and saved about $300.00

    Valveking footswitch

Yeah that should be the case. You are probably looking for non-momentary Single poll single throw switches. Easiest way to test it is to stick a Trs cable into the footswitch jack and then just take a piece of jumper wire and touch the tip to ground and then ring to ground.

    Octave pedal?

I am looking for a pedal that will do 1 and 2 octaves up. I am really digging the Zvex Johnny Octave but they are pretty expensive even used. I have a Boss Oc-3 but I just don't dig the sound for this sort of thing. Does anyone have any suggestions? I will be buying used and preferably would...

Bugera 1960 Classic 150W Tube Amp

I haven't heard one but the price just seems too good to be true for what they are promising. I would be interested to also hear some opinions on this one as well.

    I need tone help!!!

The Tubescreamer trick is used a lot of the time to act more as an initial eq (cleans up the low end) as opposed to pushing the head harder.... but it works for both. Granted you probably still won't get the sound you are hearing on album. Metal albums are almost always re-amped so you are...

    Guitar Editing Help!

Has the guitar been quantized to make sure it is dead on with the bass drum or click? The popping is happening more than likely because you are gating the audio where the guitar might have played earlier than your point of reference you are using to cut. What you end up with is the audio...

Auto Tune Evo with PT Le 8?

Is anyone using Auto tune Evo with Pro Tools LE 8? I was thinking about purchasing it for a project I am working on. I downloaded the demo and it installed correctly but when I open the Auto tune window it is like I can't see the entire interface. There doesn't appear to be any way to maximize...

    boss metal-zone mt-2 pedal seek a soulmate

There are plenty of horrible recordings done courtesy of the boss metal zone but I can't believe that the majority is condemning your setup without even asking what kind of sound you are going for. It isn't going to sound like an awesome hi-gain amp but if you understand the limitations then it...

    absorber/trap question

I finally got the rest of my panels up. So far I have six 2x4 ..4" thick Oc 703 absorbers. I also had some professional, corner half round type absorbers that a friend gave me out of an old theater he demoed. It is hard to see in the pics but I mounted those around the shelving that is above my...

    absorber/trap question

I got my room re-arranged and hung 3 absorbers so far. It is already sounding better and I have more floor space to work with for band practice. I've got enough material to build 3 more 4" thick absorbers so I will be doing that today. I just wanted to post my progress and thank everyone for the...
