If the effects enhance the noise, only put them in the guitar chain when you need them for that spot on the recording. I am assuming you aren't running an acoustic simulator into your dirty channel at all times? :)
It is really going to depend on the type of music you are recording. If it's metal with super saturated tones....less noticeable. Clean tones through a really shimmery amp, you might notice a difference with a higher quality DI.
Easiest thing to do is try it and see if you notice it mucking...
It has been a while since I have posted anything...I just wanted to share some tunes that I have been working on for a while. I am sure some of you have heard quite a few versions of these songs in some shape or form but these are the final completed versions. I recorded everything but the drums...
I used strap locks for years on my guitars but recently picked up one of the Planet waves locking straps. It is way easier and so far seems to be just as effective. If you aren't super attached to your current strap, look into their product line. No bulky mess and you can use it on more than one...
Rectifiers sound great but they are BLOATED as hell and don't work for shit IMHO on anything that has the need for definition in extended chord voicing and quick riffing. We always use one for a blend in the studio but I wouldn't own one as my main amp. He is complaining about Spongyness and I...
The sponge is definitely related to the type/brand of tube amp. If you play a lot of riffy material that needs definition then look into Engl. They are expensive but well worth the cost IMHO. They have the tightest most defined response out of the hi-gain tube heads I have owned (Marshall, Mesa...
Ok so you basically want to extend the stomp switch to your board but have the actual connections back at the rack? I just woke up and the brain isn't fully turned on yet but you should be able to swap the DPDT stomp switch in the A/B box for a TRS stereo 1/4" jack. Use a TRS single guitar cable...
Can you give a little more clarification. Maybe it is the way that you worded it but I am not following what you are trying to do at all.
This doesn't seem that out of the ordinary. I can't think of many A/B applications that would require a Momentary switch?
When you say rack....are we...
Active or passive electronics in your bass? My bassist has two Zon basses that he runs into an Aguilar DB-750 with the fulltone and it rocks. I guess your overall volume level could come into effect as well. We rehearse at a pretty moderate to loud volume. I am guessing if the sans amp or the...
Fulltone Bass Drive is fantastic for this sort of thing. It can go from slight overdrive to full on punishing distortion. Trust me, my bassist has used just about every drive pedal under the sun and the Fulltone is definitely my fav besides the built in dirty channel in one of his Aguilar heads...
Does anyone know if there is a company that produces a shallow rack drawer? I have an skb roto rack as part of my guitar rig. I was hoping to get a rack drawer to keep my spare batteries, cables, flashlight, misc...tools, duct tape, things of that nature in but the shallowest I have found is 11"...
So you are direct monitoring the vocal in the cans? I admit that I have never setup like that. My system is fast enough that the lag is unnoticeable. What happens if you plug the pre into the Behringer without the layla plugged into the inputs and without the pre going to the layla?
Can you tell us a little more about how you have your Ha4700 hooked into your signal chain? I have the older model I think (owned it for almost 7 years) and have had no problems at all. Haven't tried or used the other models you mention.
I do a lot of work with a pretty prominent metal Producer/Engineer. The big contenders in his studio are the Peavey 5150, Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier, Engl Powerball, Marshall Jcm 900/800. Often more than not... one amp will be blended with another for those super thick, tight punchy sounds.
As...
