    Help With Upgrade Decision

I agree with burgundy, unlikely it's significantly better than the 002, despite being newer it is a low end unit (relatively speaking of course, it works well for a lot of people)... The other options are probably better unless having an extra 8 inputs is essential.

Optimum, Balanced Solution for Basement Ceiling?

Using fabric on it's own between the joists might sag a little over time. I have a similar setup in my studio (though above I have a vaulted ceiling, rather than a kitchen floor). You can try putting something like plywood with drilled/sawed holes in to help the fabric hold the rockwool up if...

    Interface upgrade

You could swap the ADA8200 for an octopre for a bit better sound, but an 8 channel interface and an ADAT preamp is almost certainly going to be what you need and can get for <$1500 For that price a console is probably out of the question unless can do a refurb on a busted one.

    Budget ribbon mics

I have an X1R and it gets a lot of use - guitar cabs, acoustic guitar work really well, haven't used it too much on vocals but I enjoyed what I heard. Sounded a bit thin on percussion though. It's got a really nice tone to it when about a foot back from a cranked amp that really suprised me...

Need studio monitors. can't break the bank.

I'll add a tentative reccomendation against anything KRK Rokit related (though the VXT's have a good rep), I've used at various points. the Rokit 5's and 8's (G2) and they do sound hyped. As a first set of monitors you can do a lot worse, but there are more neutral/less hyped monitors available...

    Double tracked vocals

In ten year's time they might call it a 'modern classic'. Anything could happen... Just thought I'd mention it for flavour. Absolutely - as with all 'professional' (said with a sneer and a fair amount of cynicism) plugins its way overpriced, and it's also super-recognisable sometimes. I got a...

    Double tracked vocals

There is the lazy way - there is a very real ADT plugin that does a pretty passable job most of the time (especially on BV's).

    Double tracked vocals

It always seemed to me that just like guitar double tracks there isn't really a shortcut to it other than having an ear for a perfect take/lots of edits. I'm not 100% sure but adding pitch correction into the mix made things worse - you can end up with two copies of the track that are too close...

Cubase - Does anyone know how to apply the "Spin Down" effect to my stereo bus?

That's fair enough - applying it to the finished audio file seems like a good workaround though if it works, I rarely/never use that kind of effect so I'm no expert.

Cubase - Does anyone know how to apply the "Spin Down" effect to my stereo bus?

Have you tried mixing down, then applying the spin down effect to the resulting .wav file?

    Groove Agent 4 installation problem

Have you checked that there is a .dll file (the actual plugin file) for it in the relevant VST plugins folder of your cubase installation?

Bass note is canceling kick... grrrr...

Could be your ears getting fatigued, or your mind getting too zeroed in on one tiny detail and losing the bigger picture of the mix. Happens sometimes, but taking a break and concentrating on something else nearly always fixes it. Listening to/for one thing constantly makes it seem overly...

Difference between cheap and less cheap audio interface.

Branding, 'features', preamps (number/quality), quality of drivers, number of inputs. Most interfaces in the $100-250 range will sound more or less the same, barring a few terrible ones, but have more or less features - sometimes you pay for the brand name on the front too. The Scarlett has...

    Unusual instrument recording (diddly bow)

Cool man, thanks. That was roughly where I was going to start, interesting about pulling hte mic back, didn't think about the taps. I believe it's a bass in the Diddly Bow style so it's about 5 ft long (!) :-D Not often you get to record something like that so I might post a finished version on...

    Unusual instrument recording (diddly bow)

Hi guys, I anyone recorded a diddly bow before? Doing a little session for a friend of mine's skiffle/bluegrass/folk weirdness band this weekend and we might be limited on time - any quick starter suggestions that might save me some time on this one? Looks simple enough but being homemade I...

Suggestions for a new A/D Converter

I only started after USB was a thing and it's still a bit hard to keep track of which is best - good luck with your search! If you go for any of the Motu stuff, let me know your thoughts as I've got my eye on the avb stuff for when my pc needs an upgrade and I swap out for a motherboard without...

    Preamp question?

Essentially, yes. Getting a pro sound is much more about the experience and skill of the engineer and the quality of musicianship available, and taking the time to do things 'right'. To that end, the channel strip probably isn't going to make or break the project. Save the money and do some...

    Preamp question?

They are probably both going to be giving you much the same thing - the channel strip has some nice features but nothing you can't do later on in your DAW. I haven't used one but based on reviews etc and feedback on the internet I'd guesstimate that it will be a bit nicer and different sounding...

How to get a tight smooth heavy rock guitar sound?

For guitar recording (as with most recording) the quality of the final product is directly related to the quality of playing, and secondarily the equipment used. Regardless of any ability to set up amps to sound one way or another or use one piece of kit or another, having it played 'right' in...
