Best Monitor System for Tiny Studio

It was a tight call between the KRKs and the Yamaha HS50M but in the end I went for the KRKs - largely thanks to Phil's understated comments! I'm really happy with them. Now let's hope my mixing improves!

    Gonna try this again.

I’ll start by echoing a post I read earlier on this board that said that the song is always more important than the mix and this is a really good song! I love the way the chords for the guitar solo seem to be selected by instinct, not by reusing them from the chorus or the verse, and, as has...

Thoughts on new song - 80's new wave

I love the 80's sound and this has it in spades. In terms of production and execution I can't hear anything wrong other than the abrupt end and for me the snare is a bit too loud (we know its a big 80's snare!) From a songwriting point of view I think this is an album track that, with a better...

    Trickstar

Good song. Because the song has an unusual time signature (what is it?) I think you have to be extra careful with your rhythms. For me the lead guitar tremolo doesn't seem fully in time and the shakers are a bit off-putting, perhaps because they are too high in the mix. I think the lead guitar...

    Individually sound good..together..not so much

If you are, don't be surprised if things don't sit together in real life as well as they do in your head! It takes several, maybe tens of rehearsals for a band to gel, so when you are playing all the parts yourself you can imagine how many attempts its going to take to get things to sit together...

Best Monitor System for Tiny Studio

Excellent, good options there. Anyone using the M AUDIO BX5A or is this bargain basement stuff?

Best Monitor System for Tiny Studio

Mind you, on a budget the M AUDIO BX5A is very tempting - slightly more than half the price of the KRKs and good reviews - no eq control though. Is this a case of you get what you pay for?

Best Monitor System for Tiny Studio

Thanks for he reply. They sound like good monitors for the price from what I've read since your post however, 70w HF/LF seems a lot of amplification for my purposes. I was looking at the KRK rokit 5 - a fair bit cheaper but much less powerful: 15w HF and 30w LF. Are they any good? I know...

Best Monitor System for Tiny Studio

Ok, maybe I've been too broad, and having read SouthSIDE Glen's very informative rules of thumb on mixing room acoustics I know monitors are only half of the issue but I'd be very grateful for some pointers on suitable monitors. I'm thinking active monitors would probably make sense in a small...

Whats a great DAW software for recording?

Don't forget Garageband - free to most mac users and a great stepping stone to logic. Having worked with Cubase for years and am now in the transition to Logic I have to say Logic is far better for my purposes. It doesn't help that Steinberg still insist on Dongling their mac software and...

Best Monitor System for Tiny Studio

Hi, I'm new here and new to studio set-ups and equipment so please bear with me! I've just converted my tiny attic (probably 8ft square at floor level and 6 ft tall at the apex!) into a studio space and I want to get some decent monitors that wont cost an arm and a leg. Given the size of the...
