    Mid growl.. HM-2 like gravel??

Dude.... You don't think I've looked? :laughings: Went through the gearslutz high-gain amp shootout, and every other sample I've found from the net. Oddly, the closest thing I've found is my "Zaerix"-tubed Mesa V-twin pedal.. I'm not gonna take the solidstate-route, I've grown to the tube amps...

    Mid growl.. HM-2 like gravel??

What tube amp sounds like the Boss HM-2??? And no, it isn't a trick question. I really like the gravel-like growly mids of the swedish death-metal bands, like Dismember, Nihilist and Entombed. And as I understand they are using that pedal for their sound. But I can't be assed to f*ck around...

    More tube amp pondering.

the money.... ..Depends, now, a few hundred euros, in 4-5 months a couple of thousand. I should get a grip of myself, travel to the only City in Finland and try out some amps... Damn, such a chore, I'm lazy. But having the amp made, also interests me... But describing the wanted tone to anyone...

    More tube amp pondering.

Good evening everyone. Now.. I want to have MY dream amp. Which is pretty difficult if you don't know what to look for... Firstly, many high-gain amps feature 4 or 5 preamptubes, some only three.. What's the deal on that?.... Then, the question that arose to my mind on the other thread I...

    preamp vs power amp distortion/drive

This has been a nice thread. I plus one on the observation that the magik happens on power tubes a little after halfway on volume. Depends on taste though, a lot of my metalhead friends don't like spongyness of that, and favor the 100w amps for the tightness...

    Advances?

I'm in the same position pretty much... A Label is interested, and we're about to record a full-length to them, on our own expence, So, it will be crap. They are ready to pay expences up to a grand when the master is delivered. Unless the Album sells like a mofo, NO tour support of any kind. I...

    You might smile at this.

Haha! Thanks for the replies. :D Yeah, we're actually a blackmetalband, actually about to sign a deal in near-future. We usually have "dry" rehealsals once a week, and "wet" rehealsals on weekends, when we mostly just screw around. :D

    You might smile at this.

Hi! Haven't posted anything seriously stoopid for a while again, so here goes.. :D Take a metalband, drunk one, put the bassplayer to drums, the drummer to the vox, and say "lets play some improvised HC!": http://serif.pp.fi/haaska/trhsressed.mp3 Put that in your pipe and... :D

    Finding the groove

Yep, Backingtracks are probably a very good way out of a rut... I now realize I haven't had time to be in a rut for a couple of years.:D Bands, projects and whatnot. A dozen gigs in a year, one or two albums (Actually a poor record-deal on one of them) and a couple of sideprojects...

    BF bassman AA165. worth it?

Heyayaa'll! There's someone selling a BF bassman, not functional!! The seller claims not knowing what's the matter... http://muusikoiden.net/dyn/tori/381049.jpg Would it be worth to buy?... for 300-500? Could be just tubes.... Could be a tranny...........

    Riddle anyone?

Here's an other one, a really bad one I came up today. Just to honor Light, Muttley and other instrumentbuilders here.:D How do you know that the logger knocking off trees in the forest is a luthier?? .... Every time a tree goes down the logger shouts; TIIIMBREEE!!!!! Shit I'm glad...

*- GUITAR AMPS -* What kind do you have?

guitar: -Sovtek mig-30. The BEST buy I've made so far, and my favorite amp, fronted by a Koch Pedaltone for distortion. Fat, creamy compressed sound with BALLS when cranked past midway on both inputs. heavenly. -Sovtek Mig-50H. The worst deal I've made, paid way too much, and it sounds like ass...

Help mixing out spikes from drum hits

From a complete noob: Compression. What I use in that... I take the track, let's say a snare, and open up a proggie called Goldwave, which btw has a quite good display of a wav-file with them peaks... And take the compression tools, from there "reduce peaks".. Then I just increase the treshold...

How important are scales and theory in your guitar playing?

I had to vote for YES. Even though I play Black Metal, and I'm constantly TRYING to play out of the scales. But ALWAYS, when I find a progression that sounds good, it's on a scale. Now, the scale might have changed during the progression, basic note has probably changed many times.. But I...

    more important: guitar or amp?

Hmmm.... tricky question. The guitar is important for its feel, setup, string gauge, pickups, neck radius, etc.. They all affect your playing and sound. The Amp only plays a part in your sound. ..maybe a tad of the dynamics.. Ergo, I'm inclined to go with the GUITAR.. Since you can still...

    What distortion Pedal for Recording?

If you're into that "Death Metal" wall of muck sound, I preferred the Zoom Tri-metal if you can find one, pretty much the same controls as that MXR... Pretty ok if you run it through a cranked clean tube amp. But if some dynamics and "feel" of the tube-variety, and "tone" is of any issue...

    My Phaez amp.

Hi. A while back I was looking for a high-gain 30-50watt amp, and decided to go with a Phaez amplifier, a Canadian "boutique" amp-builder, also associated with Ark amps, Randy Fay. I emailed the fella and he agreed to build me a 6l6-powered amplifier with his "Daisycutter"-circuit. According to...

    Tinnitus

Slightly off topic but... You know how the elderly are always wondering why there are no crickets anymore. :D My boss did some skeet shooting with a shotgun "back in the day", he can't hear his cellphone ringing, or if something is leaking gas.. We were discussing bird-singing among co-workers...

    Help me troubleshoot my problem!!!

Eliminate. First, play directly to your amp for a while, if it plays allright, it's not the culprit. Then divide the pedals in two, try the first batch, if it messes around, it's something in those pedals, if not, the culprit lies in the other batch. Then try'em one by one. Go through all the...
