This has been a nice thread. I plus one on the observation that the magik happens on power tubes a little after halfway on volume. Depends on taste though, a lot of my metalhead friends don't like spongyness of that, and favor the 100w amps for the tightness...

From a complete noob: Compression. What I use in that... I take the track, let's say a snare, and open up a proggie called Goldwave, which btw has a quite good display of a wav-file with them peaks... And take the compression tools, from there "reduce peaks".. Then I just increase the treshold...
