Sir Mix Alot Cover - Baby Got Back

Ha ha!!! :D:D Whooo! Funny and touching at the same time! The mix is very lush and sounds big leauge. The vocals are so good, autotuned or not. The little guitar licks were so cool and tasteful but while I'm sitting there trying to focus on them I'd hear "my annaconda don't want none..." and...

Alanis Morissette Cover - One Hand In My Pocket - Mix Critique Please!

This is great sounding little recording! Lovely guitar sound. The vocal is bordering on a soundalike cover (can be a good and bad thing), but is recorded very well and the lead/harmony mix was great. I love when they blend and sound almost like one voice. Very cool.

    Tascam 388 Story...

You scored that 388 for $125?!?! Damn Cory, cool pickup. I hear where you're coming from feeling a bit remorseful for using a unit that clean for parts. But if you like your first 388 better and have spent all the time to make it great why not have pristine parts to replace stuff when...

    Marlboro acoustic ?

I don't think it's a Carvin. They have long made direct shipped guitars and aren't in the business of supplying guitars to other brands as far as I know. The bridge and other appointments (tuners, pickguard) also look nothing like the guitar shown. Electric manufacturers like Cort have supplied...

    Marlboro acoustic ?

These are awesome acoustics for what they are! I got one in 2001 for Christmas from my Mom and it has aged so well and sounds better than several guitars I've heard that cost 4 to 5 times as much! I researched around the web and heard alot about how it resembles and sounds just like a Sigma...

    Rickenbacker 360/12

While I'll begrudgingly agree with Light that Ric 360/12's can be a pain in the ass, 6 string Ricky's are another story. I've had a Ric 350 for years (the long scale version of the 325) and it is great for rhythm work and has a wicked, snarly lead tone when put through an overdriven amp. Enough...

    Whisper - New DRY Vocal

Very cool collaboration! LiLy's vocals are great and Ray's work on the track shows. I dig it!:)

schizophrenic nightmare and thoughts of today

"The Rain and Sun of Love" had some great harp playing and I dug the 12 bar chord variations with the guitar as well. "Alcohol Is Not Like A Rattlesnake" has some brutally honest lyrics that anyone who has had issues with substances will understand. Very cool song and very brave of you to do...

Into the Bleak - New song pls comment

A little bright and midrangy as far as the mix goes, needs more bottom; the song is really good though. Fine vocal performance, brings to mind Elvis Costello and Bowie in places. With a new mix and some work on the drums you'll be sitting pretty.

    Teal Eyes

Really a beautiful backing track man. The vocal needs a little reverb IMO to "fit" in the soundscape of the rest of the track. Not bathed in reverb, just a touch or on the endings of lines. The level on the vocal is noticeably distorting at times. Otherwise, really cool. The lyrics are really...

    Tascam Portastudio 488 Mk2

I personally think the 488mkII is Tascam's crowning achievement in the PortaStudio line. Some argue that the first machines (244,etc.) or the 424 mkII and III are better since having only 4 tracks means better sound, etc. but I disagree. The sound quality difference is negligible in my opinion...

    Beatles 1987 and 2009 masters

I was so relieved that Apple decided not to remix the catalog ala' the "Yellow Submarine Songtrack" CD of 1999 to go along with the remastering. The original mixes, even the early stereo ones the Beatles didn't really care about, are history. I think these remasters are great! "Abbey Road"...

ramble on rose - a little lost on this one...

Right on Heat! The new vox tracks kick ass and I think the new mix sounds tighter and more coherent. The harmony vocals definitely provide what was missing before and the lead is more assured. I didn't say so before but that solo is wicked! Just a cool bubbly tone that brought to mind Jerry...

ramble on rose - a little lost on this one...

Another kickass bass track! Hey Heat, well Mr. Lesh would be proud of that fat ass bass sound! Another great bass track IMO. Like the gang said though, maybe another take on the vocals would be the way to go. Just belt it a with bit more abandon and maybe add some harmonies? If you did this on...

    Sony MDR-7506's vs. Sennheiser HD280's

I like the way the MDR-7506's sound for tracking. Hyped yes; but to me they inspire better performances because things do sound good. Now of course no headphones are good for mixing, so how they sound during the recording process should be the paramount concern.

    Conversions to MP3

Miroslav is so right about this. Most of us try to squeeze every last drop of quality from our equipment, use expensive cabling, etc. and otherwise obsess about getting the best possible product period. If you can get your chosen delivery method to sound as best as possible shouldn't you try? I...

Reverb on Bass Guitar and Kick Drum tracks…

I understand where you're coming from Miro, I just don't use the same method on bass, in particular. I've used the "subliminal reverb" technique on drum samples that were dry. Just a little bit and it does liven up the sound. On bass though I prefer to do what Bob is describing. Even though my...

Reverb on Bass Guitar and Kick Drum tracks…

"Reverb" vs. "Ambience" I think for the purpose of this discussion the OP meant "reverb" as an effect; something to be put on during mixing artificially with a hardware or plugin reverb device. Sure, when you record bass with a mic, in a room, there's going to be reverberations, etc. I would...
