I've installed Service Pack 2 on one of my machines and so far I've had no problems with it. As soon as you install it, disable the built-in firewall, though. It will try to block a lot of your online applications such as AIM, p2p software, etc.
Definitely don't get a powered mixer for recording. Those are mainly for live use. I have the Truth powered monitors, and they are pretty nice. I'd opt for a Yamaha MG series board over the Behringer mixers, though.
Actually, my plan is to bypass the 2 pres already on the Delta and run the 8 preamps from my Soundcraft or other device to the Delta. You're right, I do have converters, but not preamps. Also, there is no ADAT lightpipe in the Delta.
Thanks guys. All I really need the 8 preamps to do is to get me a pretty good drum recording. If anyone has experience with the Digimax, Octane, or SP828, let me know your thoughts on those as well, please.
I currently have a Delta 1010LT to go into my computer, but I want to have at least 8 preamps that I can use for recording drums and other instruments as a definite step up from the Delta's 2 pres. I will be getting a seperate one for vocals at some point in the future. I'd like to know how the...
You should probably check out Conaway drums as well. http://www.conawaydrums.com is their site. They make completely custom drums for really reasonable prices. You can get everything completely custom as well.
Glad to hear at least some of you guys are open-minded. I appreciate the input! I'm just trying to see what people think of this particular style of polkas.
This is no joke; someone I know recently put out a polka CD. I think it's a pretty good CD overall. Vocals are poor, but you can't really knock too much else.

The setup I have running right now is a Delta 1010LT and a Yamaha MG16/4 mixer. I run a snake from the Delta to the Yamaha and then the other 2 channels on the Delta are preamps. It's been working well for me thus far. It would probably cost you around 600 bucks for that setup.
A lot of people say the Evans EMAD bass drum heads work well for dampening the bass drum without even putting anything inside it. I haven't tried them, though.
I think you should be able to pick up the hi-hat fine with bleed from the snare mic and also the overheads. If you wanted to mic it seperately, I'm really not sure what kind of mic would be best.
Thanks guys. I have heard of the 603s and I might possibly pick some up. A guy who is in the band I currently play in has some condensers that I may be able to use as overheads instead of buying my own. I'm not sure what kind of mics they are, though. I think they are similar to an MXL-type mic...
I am planning on starting a solo recording project in a week or so. I have some decent mics for drums. Here is my list:
Snare: Audix D3
Rack Tom: Audix D2
Floor Tom: Shure Beta 58
Bass Drum: Shure Beta 52
I don't have any overhead mics, though. What are some budget overheads that can sound...
I think the only differences between XP Home and Pro are the extra networking options found in Pro, and also a few other extra features that most users won't notice. Pro woudn't be any better than Home as far as audio recording goes.
