    Need advice on studio monitors

I guess I feel pretty good about scoring a slightly used (so I'm told) pair for $800. These are my first genuine monitors. In the past I used phones to do a rough job and then fine tuned it over my (fairly high end) stereo. Results weren't bad, but the logistics were a major hassle.

    Headphone damage

Why would isolation possibly hurt your ears? If anything, its better because you can listen at lower volumes with ambient sound to contend with, and it blocks out loud instruments in the room.

What are you guys talking about? You don't know what he needs them for. Sammy: What for? Do you need isolation? Do you need portability? What are you driving them with? The Grado 60s have great sound for the money, I've been enjoying a pair for ten years. But no isolation, questionable...

First Paying Gig-Recording a Choir (lots of questions)

Do NOT ride the gain during a classical performance, unless you absolutely must to avoid getting totally distorted crap. Classical musicians play a great deal of attention to macro and micro dynamics, and changing the gain drives them nuts. Just set the levels lower. For the same reason...

    Oktava MK-219 + Bellari MP105 - $99.99!

I just read back over this thread. People got excited last year about maybe getting this combo for $100, and then learned it was a typo and they were really selling for $200. Today, I saw the combo available for $58 ($29 each unit) at a GC blow out. And they even had Sovteks in them.

Sale on Oktava MK319's! Any good?

I just grabbed a pair of 219s at GC. I know they've gotten pretty mixed reviews around here, but for $29 each I figure there's something i can use them for.

    isolating mics for directionality?

I was thinking about building a sort of box or shield out of soundproofing foam tiles to put arround the back and sides of a mic to enhance its off-axis rejection. ______ l l =======)) l l______ Any reason why this is not a good idea?
