First recording, help me make it better.

Help is given out of generosity, not obligation. No one is "owed" help nor is it appropriate to dictate to someone how they should communicate.

    I'm stuck between two mics...

A Tale of Two Mics. A $100 mic can wind up sounding better for your partucular application than a $1000 mic. You don't know until you experiment.

How important are scales and theory in your guitar playing?

Why be musically illiterate if you don't have to be. I practiced all 48 scales (on the piano) from age 8-25 every day , eventually in parallel and contrary motion combined, moving up the chromatic scale from C to C nonstop at 200 on the metrenome 4 notes per beat. Can't hurt.:D I don't practice...

    Overhead mics for <$200

I'm selling a pair of basically new M-Audio Pulsar 11's. I heard they are great for drum overheads. My ad is in the for sale section and there is a link to a review. I'm asking $200 includes shipping (in USA) Check them out.

M-Audio Pulsar 11 matched stereo pair light usage brand new $200 includes shipping

Light usage 3-4 hours in my living room. These are great mics, just not the perfect ones for my room and sound source. They are medium diaphram mics with avery flat natural response and have been compared to Neumann KM184's (I believe they are copies )I think they would be ideal for drums and...

Has anyone used both Sp C4's and Beyer MC930's--any comparisons?

I know now, for sure, that choice of mics really depends on the room and the sound source, which is in this case an acoustic grand piano. However, I'm considering the Beyers for some time in the future. The C4's in cardioid, are doing an awesome job, but I'm sure there is better and I'm curious...

    I need lyric reviewers please.

As posters have said, song writing is a skill. Music and poetry have structure. I think if one wants to be a songwriter, it's useful to study the structure of both music and poetry. Read lots of classic and comtemporary poetry. I'm sure there are many books on the subject of song writing as...

Some more lyrics in need of readers!

I like the concept. Don't have a problem with "creating theories"--it's nice to hear lyrics about someone attempting to use their mind LOL. What about "spinning" theories (as per the spider analogy?) It's good to keep a concept consistent by choosing words that refer back to the main theme...

question about damged SP cardioid capsule-- I dropped it dammit!!!!

The casing bent and it woudn't screw on to the mic so I tried to fix and screwed it up worse. The guys at SP are sending me two new ones but they are the silver ones from the pre 2006 mics. They said it wasn't a problem and that the capsules are matched, he tested them, he said. Since I don't...

Another question for professional audio engineers

Ok thanks that helps a lot. BTW I do sing and grunt and make some weird sort of I don't even know how to describe, gutteral sounds that seem to follow energy patterns . Usually not that aware of it but--Yikes! I'm working on not doing it. They don't charm me when I hear them in the recordings...

Another question for professional audio engineers

Ok, true, I'm specifically listening for it which makes it worse. Average listener probably wouldn't notice it or care. A more critical "classical" listener might take issue but that's not specifically the audience I'm playing for.

Another question for professional audio engineers

Thanks Glen. I'm the pianist. I can eliminate the "bumps" by going lighter with my foot, but not the "wooshes." I've heard that Steinways have a rep for being noisy. Guess I'll wait and see what the technician says. I've heard that in some professional recordings the noises have been left in the...

Another question for professional audio engineers

Can damper "wooshes" be completely removed from recordings of piano solos in the mastering process? If so, what effect can it have on the sound of the recording. I know it's better to deal with the problem post production. My Steinway tech guy may be able to reduce the noise, I'll find out next...
