I'm looking a mixers at the mo and see that they supply phantom power via a global switch. I'm going to be using both condencers and dynamics - just wondering what happens when phantom is on(for a condencer) and i plug a dynamic into another channel - will it work?

ok, the m4 accepts headphones of approx. 200 Ohms, and the 'phones jack socket is a 3 pole "A" gauge stereo jack. What does that mean to a lay man, and how does it restrict the type of 'phones I can get.

I'm looking into getting headphones to go with a M4. Does the M4 have a microphone amp? If it doesn't am I right in saying that I'll need to get low impedence headphones unless I get a seperate headphone amp.

i'm nowhere near a music equipment store, so i'm not in a position to test before i buy. i'm going to be buying in england and i discovered that soundcraft are made there. that might make the soundcraft better value. i have narrowed the selection down to 3 items - soundcraft m4 + Delta 44...

thanks again tex. i'm not familiar with motherboards or chipset types. is there any easy way of finding out what there versions are, by maybe using control panel or something? i'll have a look for the manual too to see if its in there somewhere.

yeah thats what i thought...but it seems like im spending more money just to control the monitor volume.

im trying to decide on a soundcard and mic preamps. now i've discovered that its dangerous to connect your monitors to your soundcard as windows has a tendancy to change the output volume of the soundcard without your intention. this could prove dangerous if it defaulted back to maximum volume...
