    24/96 for cd?

Should I even bother recording in 24/96 if my intent is to burn to cd. Right now I am and then converting to 16 bit. I think I'm at least going to change to 24/44.1, but does anyone have any thoughts on what is best for best end result on cd. Sound quality is all I care about here.

    free external software mixers?

Does anyone know where I can download a good free external software mixer that will be compatible with my echo mia soundcard? I need something to push my low levels up, but certainly only need something very basic and good. Any response would be appreciated.

    recording and burning piano tunes

I'm recording solo piano pieces from my xv-88 into cakewalk in 24/96. I've got the mixes sounding the way I want, but when I change the format to 16 bit, mix down and then try to burn to cd, you can hear a distinct sort of high rattle-like sound accompanying each hammer strike. It's not there...

    raising piano volume

I'm trying to record some solo piano from a roland xv-88 into cakewalk 9. I've got the input on my echo mia soundcard mixer all the way up and the volume on the xv-88 all the way up and i still can't get my level to 0db. I don't want to have to normalize to fix this problem because when i do...

    external mixer

I'm recording a roland xv-88 straight into an echo mia soundcard in cakewalk pro audio 9 on a pentium 4 1.3 gig. Do I need an external mixer? What are the advantages of having one? Right now, I've got the mia input levels cranked b/c i know that's necessary to really reach 24 bit recording...

    I have four requests

I agree you should check out the Roland RD series. I have a Roland xv-88 and the srx-02 expansion card and its the best plug and play piano i have ever tried. If piano sounds are your thing, stay away from the triton. IMHO the Triton piano sounds just plain suck, and for that kind of money...

    input levels

thanks for the replies everyone. the xv-88 is an external synth/keyboard and i love it. i'm primarily a piano player and of all the synths i tried the xv-88 with the piano xpansion card had by far the best paino sound for my purposes. i was stuck between the triton and the xv-88 but the piano...

    buffers

any advice on what i should set me buffers at. the cakewalk manual doesn't help much with this. I know i need to set it in multiples of 3 but do i go high or low. I'm recording in 24/96 from a roland xv-88 to a mia soundcard on a pentium 4 1.3 gig system. Also, i know this is stupid, but is...

    input levels

I'm recording from my roland xv-88 onto CW pro audio 9. I know that I need to come as close as possible to maximum with my inputs without clipping for the best signal. But even with my volume on the synth all the way up and my input level on my MIa soundcard all the way up, some sounds still...

pops in recording and lock up

I occasionally get little pops on my cakewalk pro audio 9 recordings even though I think the levels are good. How can I get rid of this. Also, does anyone else ever have problems with your computer locking up only while using cakewalk. I've got a pentium 4, 1.3 Gig and CW is the only thing...

    processor

AMD thunderbird or intel pentium? What's best? AMD's a little cheaper which is great in my book, but are they at all problematic. The guy at my local computer store said AMD outperforms intel.
