    Which mic to use on drums

    Go to that myspace at the bottom.... Those clips (crappy MP3) were all recorded with a single overhead...Yes there are other mics...I don't have any recordings of 2 mics right now.. But On my studio site... I have pics under my sessions that show a Royer over the shoulder...It does pick up the...

    Audix i5

    REALLY! What pres are you using...? When I use it on snare I'm using a TG2. I have used it with LTD-1 and 1272...Still was brighter then 57. I'm not saying harsh...Just more open sounding...but not dark at all. What converters do you use?

    Analog Reverb(?)

    That's what I'm saying. Falken, Have you heard a 480L? Even the EMT140 on the UAD sounds pretty cool... I use to use a Lexicon Nuverb on a Mac IIci (Lexi 300L). It sounded cool. You can find them pretty cheap...and you can find some one with an older Mac Nubus computer..I had a buddy that had...

    Audix i5

    i5 Well I sell them...I'll get that out of the way first. but it's the only mic I use on snare anymore...Well I just used an AKG535 yesterday but I was going for a different sound. The i5 works well on gtr...But I don't like it as much as my other mics for that. I use R121, 4047, U195 and...

    Which mic to use on drums

    Well...I use lot more as well.. but...Small condensers are better for overhead. They are faster..So you'll get more detail. I would say overhead if you were using more mics... but if I were you I'd try putting it over the drummers right shoulder pointing between the snare and rack tom... 1...

    Mixing like a pro

    Learning distants with mics...As said before..Learning to get depth in the tracking and not trying to create it later. Good mic pres that give depth and aren't boring. Using tools only when needed...Don't compress just because you have them..Don't eq unless you need to... but until you get...

    Analog Reverb(?)

    I agree with above...But I have a Rev500 and I don't mind the color of yamaha F/X....It's all in how you use it. I love when guys think stuff is dry I do when really there is tons of stuff doing things for placement. Bob C... Sure gets great mixes using Yamaha http://www.mixthis.com/rack.html

    let me see your studio!

    Okay I added some.....Don't yell at me if they are to big....I tried to make them smaller...But they start to look stupid...Plus I'm burnt after a long session...I'm going to go back stuff up now.. Let me know if they need to be smaller...

    let me see your studio!

    I wish I was as cool as you guys......Back when I was 14 you were lucky if you could get/afford a 4 track porta studio...And there was no internet for forums....Man that just made me feel old. Technominds..I signed up to your studio share...I'll try and post something later...I'm heading to my...

    let me see your studio!

    Sounds like a plan... But if you do get a comp...Which I think is important when recording vocals.. You can do it with out...But I like the control of hitting my converters with a compressor. When I track with out I feel I'm asking to much of my plugins to do that job. When I track...

    let me see your studio!

    yes and no...I track with comps and mix with comps... The UAD sounds great...But does it sound like a real LA2A or 1176 NO! But I use them and get great results...But there are plenty of times when I'm mixing stuff I haven't tracked and the color the person got isn't so good. So there are...

    let me see your studio!

    Well...Lots of reasons..Some like to be able to route things through mixers.. We started out years ago all analog..Then went to Yamaha Digital boards and DA38's to Pro Tools.. It took me awhile to build up the power in DSP cards to mix with out a mixer. Now I track in Pro Tools still..But I mix...

    First few..Cubase SX3 mixes..

    Hey...Each cover is mixed a little different. Not really trying to copy the mixes...Just aimed at sounding close. The gtr's were strats.. Marshall Plexi and modded PV Classic 50 4X10 with all speakers.. Barber Electronic pedals. Signal chain on gtr tracking was.. Royer R121 and AT 4047sv into...

    First few..Cubase SX3 mixes..

    Well I'm still tracking on my Pro Tools Mix System...But I built a AMD cubase rig a month or two ago..So I thought I'd test it out first on my band...I'm in the middle of a few different projects tracking right now. So I had no clients ready to mix yet.. We did a few classic and newer stuff...

    where to use dirty/clean sounds

    No...The LDT-1 is a Neve 1073 style. It's not as soft as 1272. the TG2 is closer- They are more Neve mixed with API tone. Out of what I have crisp would be Great River... Still not as clean as others. but I don't like super clean for what I do. My extra pres for over flow are M80 that I put...
