How much money do you have invested in your studio?

    Purchased ADL600.

Well the original is the 160VU I have...Which is a two space unit. The 160X was if I remember the first or second after the 160 which both are single space rack units.. The 160X has the VCA color of the 160VU and the bite..it sounds a little different. But I like it. I like the 160X over the...

    Purchased ADL600.

Well i'd be happy for you if you would have been smarter and went 160X.. If you can find that for a $150. then you should have jumped on it... That is a pro unit. I've seen them go for double that price. I have a 160VU I use all the time...But i love the 160X as well.

    Purchased ADL600.

My 2 cents... The RNC is better sounding then the 3630 even with mods.. But I'd save for something better. Again that is why I like that DVC.. It be different if you already had a few pres and a few comps sitting around. Then maybe the ADL would be cool. But if you have no comp..then I would...

Or..... You got 30 days...You can take it back and get a Langevin DVC for a little less.. and has two very good limiters...and pretty cool sounding pres..Just an idea.

    What does everyone mix through?

Ok...I'll be the odd ball. I track with a Pro Tools mix plus system..on Mac I mix on an AMD system with Cubase SX3..I mix through a Folcrom. Mostly rock and using a TG2 on the backend of the Folcrom..Sometimes a Great River or 1272..But mostly the TG2 I like the hair it adds.

Audix i-5 mic and Shure 57

Well I'll be the odd ball. I have several 57's...I use one all the time for bottom snare. That's it...anymore. i5 is on top of snare. i5 can work well on gtr...but i don't use it. Tried it thought it was ok..But if something is better to my ear i go with that. I have not used 57 on gtr in like...

    Favourite Overhead Set Up

Lately it's been AKG 391b's into Great River MP2. Some times into 1272 when I want rounder. I did a session a few months ago. My drummer playing his 67' ludwig with a mono overhead..I used a Blue Bottle into one ch of our TG2. Sounded great.. Also did a mono overhead for a darker slower tune...

    Tascam MSR 16

There was a Fostex G16S w/dolby S on ebay for $750. They use to sell for $5000. We use to have one years ago. They sound great..Very round and the Dolby S is quiet. I just wish they were balanced I/O. I would have picked it up if it was.

    Mixing a single vocal track

I don't have to many clients ask for that. I think what helps is a thick preamp. I use either LTD-1 or TG2 somtimes 1272. Mic's Blue Bottle, U48, 4047sv. Comp's help too.. I get guy to double their parts. If they suck...I make them do it over and over till it's right. They end up very happy.

    emergency! 44.1khz to 48khz

sounds like you time-stamped them wrong. Like turningit inside out...Sucks. not sure how you got there...It takes a little time for me to change each file. Not sure how you did that so fast. Did you try a reboot? What interface do you use? when playing the new session did the interface...

    Mixing like a pro

Yes..I said in the earlier post..Distants helps..Which is true. But you can't really do everything back to far. That would be weird.. So I mic drums with a little more air in between then most guys I see... I have a big room so it helps. When I do bass..I'm Using a mic pretty close and blending...

    Mixing like a pro

Wait I started this stupid thing....were's my $$$$$$ Up down knob would be cool.... TravisinFlorida, Don't forget you'd also need a speaker in front and behind...Would that be mono surround? Weird.... Again it's how I think...How I go about my mixes...Not saying do steps 1,2,3 and that's it...

    Mixing like a pro

And I said...With a ? You do not hear large mixes....That are NOT JUST side to side and front to back.. Key word Just.. I'm sure you hear side to side and front and back...But I said earlier I'm thinking up and down as well.... I also said if you think about sitting at home plate..You can...

    Mixing like a pro

You never heard Cd's that sound really large? Like not just big side to side and front and back.. I remember Collective Soul record years ago...Sounded like it was mixed through a straw...Really small...Like if you closed your eyes it sounded right in front of you. Still when I hear it on the...

    Mixing like a pro

Yeah..The up and down thing is tough...Not sure I get it where I want it all the time. It's easier to place things side to side and front to back.. But sometimes when you effect things and tweak eq..If you try and play with the size of things..You can make it more up and down..Sort of.. That is...

    Analog Reverb(?)

Yep..goes back to what I said..It's how you use it. I eq Verb plugins outboard verbs delays...You have to. They are alwasy to bright.. I cut bottom at times too..They don't do the bottom right sometimes..Most rooms don't kick bottom and top out like this F/X units.
