An amazing series of articles about miking amps and miking acoustics

Pretty standard stuff. I wouldn't call it "amazing" even by the longest stretch.

    Acoustic Guitar Brands

When buying a cheap guit for a beginner friend of mine, the best < $200 guit I found at guit center was a $150 Mitchell dread. It had a solid top, nice fit and finish, and sounded very good. I was amazed. Action was a little stiffer than I like, but not bad really. IMO it was better than any...

    New Computer Recording Setup

MOFO Pro meant get rid of graphics cards with fans. Get a single quiet one with a heatsink--and one that will support dual monitors if needed--but I don't think it is.

    Doubling guitar tracks

Yes, this "fattening" works very well even without a pitch shift.

Any Channel strip suggestion? Between 800$ and 1200$

The Meek TwinQ would be another good choice.

    Check out these guitar tones!

The first piece sounds kinda Jeff Beck "Wired"-esque. I like it a lot.

mics for acoustic guitar, harmonica, voice

I read an article a few of years ago where a lot of engineers in Nashville loved the 4033 on acou guit. What else do you like it on? Back in the early days of this Board, Ed Rei used to use it on vox as well (I don't think he had a lot of options at that time, though).

I has got new (cheapo?) mics!

Remove C1 and C2? Can we buy a single 50v 1000pF Polystyrene on the Net? Thanks for the info.

I has got new (cheapo?) mics!

I think he's talking about the mic's preamp (electronics), not a mic preamp.

I has got new (cheapo?) mics!

The 603s is a very good acou guit mic IMO. I highly recommend it for that application.

    matched pair, mixer

Lexicon Alpha, EMU 0202, Tascam US122. I'm not that familiar with the these interfaces, but I believe they would work. I definitely do not care for all-in-one recording boxes that include preamps.

    matched pair, mixer

Why do you need a mixer if you are only recording in stereo? You will get a better sound with the DMP3. Pair that with two MXL603s and you have an excellent acou guit recording setup. The DMP3 and MXL603s combo will also do a decent job on vox.

M audio DMP3 advice? Should i get one???

I believe so; it has 66dB of gain.

    Source For Mic Transformers?

Sounds like you have an SM57 with the transformer mod described in the March/April 06 TapeOp Magazine (the tranny is removed). The output is decreased considerably, but the overall sound is supposed to be closer to an SM7, which is a good thing.

Did you save it up or you took out a loan for it?

Save up. Budgeting skills and discipline will pay you dividends for the rest of your life in everything you do. ;)

$500 to spend Mic or Pre

No I haven't used the Bluebird. Do I need to? You have two inexpensive LDs. If they sound so different that each fills unique needs for you, and you cannot part with one of them, then keep them. My suggestion was to sell one of them to get a little more money for an R92--something that will...
