Converting 16 ohm Cab to 4 ohms power or sound quality loss????

Going to 4 ohms - I personally don't think it should make more than a subtle difference at best, as far as what the cab sounds like. With a differenct head, it is going to sound a lot different anyway. It is perfectly "kosher", and should sound fine. The main thing is that you make sure all 4...

another one for Muttley or Light

Thanks for the reply. I do clean my strings religiously - typically using formby's lemon oil and lighter fluid. I also wipe down my rosewood fretboards with Formbys when I change strings (often). I also wash my hands before playing. Over the years, I have found that employing all of the above...

another one for Muttley or Light

I'll have to say that I find the powder idea intriguing...messy, but intriguing. My hands sometimes sweat when I play, which does cause corrosion, fretboard funk, and dead strings. Many years ago I used a powder that I applied directly to my left hand, it seemed to help a little. Using powder...

    Replacing tuning pegs?

Qote from Light re: extra headstock mass via tuning peg weight: Thanks for the honest reply. I had that in my head...lets say from some un-scientific data that I had read and some experience with a couple of my own axes. I experimented last night with adding some weight to the headstock of a...

    Replacing tuning pegs?

Just one more thought before I go to bed... don't forget about the wraps at the ball ends as being one source of de-tuning. I don't think it is usually the primary source, but it does contribute. I used to have a licensed Steinberger copy - that used double ball end strings. Those tuners were...

    Replacing tuning pegs?

I think some guys will like the tone with more mass, and some won't, definitely a matter of preference. I brought it up because I know a lot of players change out the stock tuners for lockers and other heavy ones, because they believe it will stay in tune better...IMO, it will not help tuning...

    Replacing tuning pegs?

What specific guitar? electric? trem bridge? Tuneomatic? strat style? How does it go out of tune? does it tend to get lower in pitch? Up in pitch? all strings, or just some? what gauge are you using? I would bet that the nut is the highest % culprit, but trem equipped guitars can be very...

    Replacing tuning pegs?

I would agree that tuners are not the problem. Even the cheap worm gear tuners seem to work well - they might have some slop, but if you tune up to pitch, they don't seem to go backward. I don't know where that myth, "if a guitar won't stay in tune, change the tuners" started, but I suspect it...
