    Basics of head azimuth

The software above is called "Visual Analyser 2011", something that came up in a google search. I ended up finding that Sony Sound Forge has a phase scope reader. So I downloaded the trial version and it seems that I finally am seeing the correct format.....the catch is that I cannot view it in...

    Basics of head azimuth

Ok, but I guess the software I have isn't so simple... This is the phase window, now with channels A & B (2 & 7) running together:

    Basics of head azimuth

Hey their, Doing a head azimuth test, just to make sure my deck is still aligned well. I need to know though, what am I looking for on the oscilliscope/ what settings do I want to set it for. My manual pretty much states where to plug things in, but I'm not sure how to read or what I'm looking...

    Otari MRL and Multimeter

Well, basically, can you guys tell me what to look for in the manuals so I know if I'm getting a multimeter that's accurate? I found this guy: http://www.extech.com/instruments/resources/manuals/EX430_UM.pdf and it is saying 400 Hz to 1kHz, so I'm assuming that I'm looking at the right thing...

    Otari MRL and Multimeter

Well, here's the way it breaks down: I can't do any more tracking since the lead artist is away for a few weeks. I can do some bounce mixes, but I would prefer for him to be their. Plus, several of the other tracks need more overdubs before they can be bounced. And the single we're planning on...

    Otari MRL and Multimeter

OK. I understand what you are both saying. My general policy though is to master to tape, then transfer that to digital. That way it's "pure analog". To me, if I'm cutting an entire album on 8 track, mine as well keep it pure analog. But I agree with what you said, I would much rather bounce to...

    Otari MRL and Multimeter

Well, I guess, let me ask this question: I'm really keen on having my 2 track calibrated perfectly for 2 purposes A: Bounce reduction mixes B: Final Mastering for Vinyl Pressing. If the deck is not perfectly calibrated (down to the last .5 db) if I were to send the master tape off to a vinyl...

    Otari MRL and Multimeter

Well it's going back either way. Radioshack didn't have much to offer. I can't really afford $110 on a meter, my budget won't allow it. Is the Radio Shack 22-812 usable or should I go with something better? I'm looking on ebay.

    Otari MRL and Multimeter

Yes, so I will be setting out for another Multi-meter it seems. I find it surprising that the Otari manual doesn't have you measure the voltage getting sent out vs. the dBm.....But then again, this whole thing is like Chinese in some respects.

    Otari MRL and Multimeter

I'm not on the scope yet. I'm just trying to test the Multi-meter and see if it will work. I did the same for dB and got nothing and from further reading on the unit, it will not read dB from the probe, only from the mic that is built into it. SO I'm stuck in the water.

Page 11, Steps 9-12 & 15-16, for a start. Page 13, Peak Indicator Calibration Page 15, Steps 3-12. These are all page numbers on the bottom of the scanned pages. I think that is everything.

    Otari MRL and Multimeter

Pretty much pages 10-16 (the page #s on the bottom of the scanned pages, not the PDF file pages). According to the manual, it's accurate up to 200kHz.

    Otari MRL and Multimeter

This is the multimeter I purchased. It is a CEN-TECH model. I can return it if it is not adequate. I have already downloaded the link you attached (which is doesn't seem to be working). The 26 page manual says to switch to NAB while playing the 1kHz tone and then to adjust for +4dBm at the rear...

    Otari MRL and Multimeter

Ok, so I cannot seem to find directions for accurately calibrating the REPRODUCE function on my MX5050 B2-HD. The otari alignment guides online do not apply to my model. I mean, am I just calibrating 1K from the tape to 0vu on playback and then 10k for channel EQ at 0vu as well? The issue, is...

    NU Finish on tape deck

I've heard so-so on ATR stuff, but at least it works for you! Yes, their is nothing wrong with carefully stored pancakes, as a personal nit-pick I wouldn't want to do that, you never know when that one accident can happen and shoot a master... I wouldn't mind buying tons of pancakes and then...

    NU Finish on tape deck

Yeah, but it's hard to find 1/2" reels. Even if I got the 1/4" reels and just used the metal flanges, I would still have to get the 1/2" screw sets and then boxes, if I didn't already. Also unfortunately I'm a bit budget constricted to order bulk or anything. It'll probably be a bit less than...

    NU Finish on tape deck

I do agree with that, it is great that we can buy tape still, but add shipping to an $81 dollar reel and you're talking about $100 for every 33mins... I really hope that prices will come down, maybe their will be a huge re-surge or if we're lucky maybe Jack White will start a tape factory making...

    NU Finish on tape deck

I've bought all my tape from Splicit Tape. US Recording Media is out of 1/2". I actually ordered and received a new reel just the other day, but upon looking at it, it is packed unevenly....So we'll see how it turns out. I'm looking into starting to buy used. A local studio has some Quantegy 456...

    NU Finish on tape deck

Well the tape is new RMG911. The tape isn't shedding or anything like that, but it seems like I pick up a lot of brown tape oxide when I clean off the metal roller (not the rubber pinch roller). I use MG Chemicals Audio/video head cleaner along with their tapered double headed cotton swabs. It...

    NU Finish on tape deck

My metal capstan that touches the pinch roller seems to be picking up tape oxide alot more than anything else on my Teac 80-8 deck. If I clean it well and just put some NU finish on it, would that decrease or even stop the amount of oxide it seems to be pulling. I Know it's pulling a lot because...
