    Otari MRL and Multimeter

Bringing an old thread to life again, sorry that it has been some time. I work landscaping and it picked up a lot over the last month and has calmed down somewhat. I meant to pick up where miroslav had asked me about the correct MRL procedures....I double-checked my azimuth weeks ago on my...

No input signal on my Teac 80

Thank you all for your help! I am glad to say that after a few weeks time (due to me being on vacation mainly) I fixed the deck.....Using the schematics above, I tested everything with my meter and got no signal flow. After some tinkering and sitting, I found out that the adapter from the...

Is US Recording Media doing OK?

Well I haven't heard anything but it seems that they are slowly getting smaller. Shipping for ANY item, I'm talking $3 NAB screw sets, was like $18 last time I checked!!! And like you said, their tape stock seems to be low or sold out, so I've been going thru Full Compass for tapes. They have...

No input signal on my Teac 80

Could anyone perhaps link me to a schematics pdf? I have the manual, but my copy doesn't have any schematics for some reason.

No input signal on my Teac 80

Yes, we checked it with the meter and we got a showing of 0. So it must be somewhere else? What else could it be, possibly the wiring on the inputs themselves?

No input signal on my Teac 80

Well I found the fuses and none of them seem to be blown. They all have 2 thin wires coming down from the top onto a spring coil looking thing. None of them are disconnected from the spring I mean. I should have also noted before that the vu meters all still "jump" when I turn them on and off...

No input signal on my Teac 80

I really don't know what the fuse looks like on the cards. Are they the 2 large rectangular looking things that have OHM on them? Nothing looked or seemed wrong on the cards???? But I'm may not be looking at the right thing. Could they be possibly blown?

No input signal on my Teac 80

I was in the middle of calibration and suddenly the inputs stopped working on my deck! A few minutes before, I had turned off the deck and removed a channel card to adjust a pot. And before the entire calibration I removed every card and cleaned the RCA jacks on them all. MRL calibration went...

    Otari MRL and Multimeter

I think the issue is that the manuals I have, aren't agreeing with each other. The otari pdf doesn't match my specific model. I can't find certain pots to adjust that the pdf states (the peak pot for example). Also, the physical manual that came with my unit specifies different settings for...

    Otari MRL and Multimeter

No. I figured out the difference between dB VU and dBm after I got the meter. I am trying to calibrate both decks, but I am trying to get the Otari done 1st. I took a break from the Otari to just try the meter on the Teac deck. Pretty much, the difference between the decks, is that I'm...

    Otari MRL and Multimeter

Any thoughts? I think that perhaps I am misunderstanding the MRL alignment procedures. It says to adjust HF EQ to +4db, but the pot will not let me go above 0db, and also, I only have 1 EQ pot on my deck, not hi and low frequency ones. So perhaps maybe I am supposed to set the frequency to...

    Otari MRL and Multimeter

OK, so I haven't had much of a change with the Otari. But Im still trying a few things. Now, not to side track, but I was testing the meter out on my Teac 80-8 and was able to calibrate MRL levels accordingly to the manual specs (-10db). But, surprisingly, the issue I'm having now, is that I...

    Otari MRL and Multimeter

EQ switch is set to NAB and tape is NAB.... Should I have gotten IEC? It is a two speed test tape with 1k and 10k tones.

    Otari MRL and Multimeter

Alright, I understand what you are saying miroslav. I have followed the manual accordingly. Basically it's to just set the levels in and out using the DVM vs. the meters... I getcha. However, now I can't seem to get the HF EQ up to +4dBm, what the manual calls for. Both channels only go up to...

    Otari MRL and Multimeter

I'm on the MRL alignment section (Page 12 of the pdf, page 10 of the scanned pages of the Otari manual). I was reading last night that the manual is somewhat out of order and that I need to set my line level/meter level before MRL adjustment....Not sure what was meant by that.

    Otari MRL and Multimeter

Hi all, sorry to bring up an old post. Long story short, I got the Radio shack 46 range multimeter and in the meantime have had to bounce my 8 track reduction mixes to my DAW. I am currently trying to calibrate my 2 track and ran into some issues. I am currently reading other forums and have a...

Ideal Test Pro Multimeter (True RMS) any good?

I picked up a Radio shack meter like from my original post. But it has been acting weird lately and some readings were coming up wrong when I was testing it.....Like the screen would show an Error basically. I was just curious to see if their is another one out their, perhaps an inexpensive...

Ideal Test Pro Multimeter (True RMS) any good?

Are these multimeters any good for Reel to reel calibration? True RMS......But the other true RMS meters I see are more expensive.....Is it viable?? Has anyone purchased one of these or stick with a used Radio Shack 46 Range Digital Multimeter? Ideal Test Pro Multimeter True RMS 61 361 61 342...

    Basics of head azimuth

Yep, that's what I was saying in my earlier posting. The sound forge is showing me what I need, but I can't do a realtime look. The other software IS realtime, but I have no clue how to set it up. If you're saying my 8 track looks fine, then I'm going to move onto my 2 track, the deck I'm more...
