    In need of helpful advice...

I agree with recordingpro. The Tascam 424-2 runs on casette tape and you will be squashing 4 tracks of complex analogue recording onto a tape just 1/8" wide. It's asking it do do an awfull lot. You will probably find the Tascam lacks fine detail compared to a digital recording, your recordings...

    Octava MK/MC 319 Mods

Changing the FET I want to change the existing FET on my MK319 to the 2SK170BL. The existing fet has 4 pin connections and the 2SK170BL has 3. The 4th connector on the existing FETgoes to the - [ground?] rail of the PCB. Do I just connect in the G S D of the new fet and thats it or is...

    LISTEN..Modded Oktava 319 vs. standard ShureKSM 32

To Michaeljoly I would be gratefull on your thoughts regarding one thing I have never been sure of on mods to the MK319 As you know the stock MK319 mics sonic abilities can vary from one to another due to quality control during manufacture. One can sound good and the other not so good. Lets...

    LISTEN..Modded Oktava 319 vs. standard ShureKSM 32

To cmaconsulting. Iv'e listened to the two clips you posted. The Octava has a fuller tone but is a little dark and seems to lack air in the upper regions. Sounds a bit dull. However it sounds fairly natural and I get the impression the singer is in the room with me. The Shure sounds...

Shure S545 How Does It Compare ??

Still no firm opinions on the differences between the 545 and the Beta 58 then ? I'm going to keep the 545 whatever happens. The question is whether the Beta 58 is distinctly better than the 545, and if so in what way. I dont want to buy a Beta 58 and find there's virtually no difference...

Shure S545 How Does It Compare ??

Getting back to the 545 versus the Beta 58 would you think the Beta 58 is distinctively better technically, ie cleaner, resolves finer detail, less self noise etc and generally prefered by most users or is it maybe just a little better but doesn't really shine out in a A to B comparison with...

Shure S545 How Does It Compare ??

Thanks for your replies. From what you are saying it seems that the 545 is at least the equal of the SM57 and SM58. Does anybody have any thoughts on how the 545 would compare with the Beta 58a vocal mike ?

Shure S545 How Does It Compare ??

I have a Shure S545 Unidyne 3 which I bought about 20 years ago. The mic is in good condition and has had little use. I havn't recorded anything for years. I have started making a few recordings again lately just for fun, and have been using this mic. My question is how does the S545 compare...

    A puzzle for you electrictians...

Probably a stupid question but does the supply have an mains input voltage selector. If so check its set for the mains voltage you are using the supply on.

    A puzzle for you electrictians...

My advice would be not to fiddle with it unless you know what you are doing. If its a well made supply it will probably have 'voltage regulators' in it which are sometimes adjustable. These set the DC output volts. You may be able to adjust what you have already, otherwise the voltage...

    Stuffy vocals.

Just a thought. Make sure you are not holding the mic too close to your mouth as this will boost the low frequencies and your voice will sound heavy, full, and bassy. Try holding the mic about 18 inches away and try again. if this doesnt do the trick i cant offer anything else. good luck

    WHICH ONE ?? AT4040 or AT4050

I've done a bit of research and believe both of these mics will be suitable for my voice. As i will be buying over the internet I wont get a chance to try before buying. Has anybody actually used both these mics and if so i could you give me any idea what the differences between them are ...

BUY in the USA and SHIP to the UK

Noisedude The idea of importing from the USA to the UK seems to be losing it's sparkle for me as it seems there can be delays while you send the import tax and vat etc. I would also guess that by the time you have paid all these charges you are no better off than if you had bought from a UK...

BUY in the USA and SHIP to the UK

C7sus You know, I get totally fed up with silly remarks and pointless questions by people on this site who probably believe they are the life and soul of the party and that the whole world thinks they are witty and funny. The're not funny, just boring.

BUY in the USA and SHIP to the UK

21% tax seems a lot, doubt if the rate has changed. If it has its probably gone up if Gordon Brown's track record is anything to go by.

BUY in the USA and SHIP to the UK

Anybody know what the rate of import tax is in the UK, does VAT have to be added to this or is there just one tax, and how do you go about paying it?
