I'll agree with Dave, definitely stick with the USBPre 2! And, my bad man I kind of came off as if I were questioning your original selection - I was actually implying surprise as most people that start over are more budget oriented. The USBPre2 is an excellent solution if you can afford it.
or get yourself a free file storage account (dropbox, google drive, or skydrive) and stick the install files in the cloud - you'll never have to worry about losing the original or backup media. :)
I would recommend selecting pieces of equipment based on a set budget.
You also stated that you're going to be producing Hip-hop? But are you going to be playing any instruments? Guitar? Keyboard? Etc? Cause right now, with your list you'll only be able to record vocals.
Your above setup is doable.
That said, for under $400, I would recommend the following interfaces: (in no particular order)
Scarlett 18i8
M-Audio M-Track Quad
Akai EIE (or pro version)
TASCAM US-600
PreSonus AudioBox 44VSL
These are all 4x4 mixers. (4 in / 4 out)
For this you might want...
That particular mixer does not have a USB port. For your price range, yamaha offers the (discontinued?) MW10 or MW12 mixers, and they both have USB ports. However, as mjbphotos has stated, you may want to skip a mixer and go with a USB interface, because its an all-in-one solution for recording...
Between those 2 interfaces? I would beg the differ because the Scarlett 6i6 is a 6 in 6 out device (love the name,) while the saffire Pro 24 is 16 in 8 out device. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's kind of significant for that price point, dont-cha-think? The Scarlett USB equivalent to the...
Sorry, I didn't know it was that watered down. :)
Your final product selection was similar to mine 2 weeks ago! Its a hard choice, because there are so many interfaces that are decent in the price range...
Reaper is the cheapest (in terms of price,) but stands among the most powerful DAWs available.
+1
Audacity is basically an audio editor/recorder with some basic DAW elements.
Nope, no latency issues with my 6i6 over ASIO.
I use a couple of DAWs actually - Adobe Audition, Ableton Live 8, and FL Studio 10. I use Audition for podcasting/mastering, FL Studio for midi sequencing, and Ableton Live for its arrangement of wav files and its ability to utilize VST/plugins...
If you are planning on purchasing a USB mixer, make sure to do your homework first. I cant stress this enough, because while there is a heap of information out there, it can be very confusing and you can easily overlook features that you may need. For example, many of the 'budget' USB mixers on...
The 2i2 is limited in the regards to what can be connected to it and coming out as you've probably noticed.
Might I add, Bobbsy offered a great solution!
Another solution (if money permits,) is you may have to move up to either the Scarlett 2i4 or 6i6 for the additional ins and outs. I'm...
In terms of clipping, with the Scarlett line it will all depend on where your gain control knob is set. But keep in mind that any interface will clip if your gain is set too high. On my 6i6, I have mine set a little over half way and the 6i6 brings in some warm, non-clipping vocals. In...
I think your condenser + Scarlett preamps will sound better and allow for more functionality from a hardware sense because of the interface. But if you're budget oriented and only recording yourself the ATR2100 will also suit your needs just fine.
I've also found this post which should help...
Last week I upgraded my Fast Track Pro to a Scarlett 6i6, and for vocals the Focusrite preamps are extremely good. I would highly recommend this product for upgrade purposes.
Success, and it looks good too!
So basically my AKG shock mount knob had a crack in it and it wasn't tightening the shock mount in place. And, here's what (I did) and is needed to fix it..
First you'll need to know the bolt pattern of the nut and knob: 10-32.
Now that you are armed with the...
I think it's the knob thread that is stripped, but I will have to double-check when I get home.
Much appreciate the advice and link! I'll just bring the mount and knob to the local lowes and match a nut and bolt until it works I guess. I'll even repost the results and sizes used. Perhaps save...
