    Demos vs Studio recordings

Haha, I know. Now define what is a bad recording, please.

    Demos vs Studio recordings

Sucking at recording is a totally subjective thing IMO. It goes along with what tastes you have. Its hard for me to say someone "sucks" because I dont know the background of all recordings I hear all the time. I mean, listen to The Sonics recordings...they are all fucked up and unconventional...

    Basement Recording

Everything depends on what sounds are you aiming for. If you want pop tunes that are radio-friendly, yeah, go ahead and isolate everything so then you can make it "listenable" for everyone. But there is something about drums that werent recorded perfectly to our modern standards that makes me...

Stoner Rock band, or kind of.

I like recording with few inputs and I'm saving money to buy one that has more inputs. But that wont make me stop trying to do stuff, especially when there are people that has more equipment but dont do shit about the scene they live in.

Stoner Rock band, or kind of.

No, man. My audio interface has only 4 inputs, so that is the only way to go when tracking a live band like them. The space is a rehearsal studio from downtown. They dont have any recording equipment, is mainly a rehearsal space. I havent got any studio, just my interface and a pair of speaker...

    New low-end setup

I think it actually could have a little more low end. I'm listening with headphones as well, haha. The drums are weird, the rest is fine to me.

    Let's Have A Drink

Yeah...the guitars take over the whole mix. The drums are a mess and sometimes that is cool, but I guess it wasnt your intention. And it sounds ultra compressed...like the opening of an anime, Dragon Ball or something.

    "First Tracks"

I like the wall of guitars sound you've achieved. Although I dont like the style, I think its a fine mix you've done. How many guitars have you recorded and how have you mixed them if you dont mind telling...haha.

Stoner Rock band, or kind of.

Hey guys. I recorded this band a while ago (I'm in a group of people that record and publish material for local bands) with 4 mics, so we were very limited. I mic'ed up the drums with one condenser mic, about two feet away from the snare, pointing at it. The drummer hits the cymbals very hard...

Can you tell me about this Beck Cover song I recorded?

Just saying, I loved the song and the mix. Which guitar is that? Its sounds so fucked up and awesome.

    Pavement Range Life Cover

I think the vocals suits the style. The mix is sounding clearer. Her voice shouldnt be IN YOUR FACE...I dont think it will suit the style...cause its a really delicate, fragile kind of vocal, IMO.

    Pavement Range Life Cover

To me the guitars are really sounding good, my friend. The snare does sound a little bit in front of everything in the mix...but sometimes thats what you went for. But overall I loved the mix...I liked how it sounded kinda lo-fi.

    Live recording with some overdubbs.

Hey guys. This is a recording from my band's last rehearsal. We wanted to make a demo to send our friends our songs. Turn out we liked the quality of the final mix. The drums are "peculiar" sounding, as I may understand some of the members of the forum would consider it too live but we like...

Need help pointing out any flaws because it ain't easy :D

Phil, of course is not horrible souding. That is a very subjective deal...I happen to like more "loose" sounding kick drums...as in early Led Zeppelin records and stuff like that, but thats is my opinion. I think you cant fix it because of the way you miked the kick drum. How have you done it?

I mixed a singer/songwriter today. Looking for critique on mix.

Man, I think the mix sounds fine and though the guitar sounds kind of weird, I love it. Its very mid rangey, but man, I think that if the singer didnt mind it, you should keep it like that.

    It's been a while

I loved the drums and even though the guy is hitting the rim all the time, I think it sounds peculiar and interesting. The vocals are really powerfull and the guitar has a really good tone. Do you mind sharing what setup have you used in this? And the mix has a whole vintage vibe to it, that I...

Need help pointing out any flaws because it ain't easy :D

The guitars are fine to me. The only thing bothering me is the kick drum. It has to much attack and that gives the impression that I'm with my ears inside of the kick drum listening only to the beater. Thats really the only thing that came to my mind, the rest is really fine.

    Conselution (Please comment)

I think the mix lacks bottom end. And I thought it was too loud.

    Feedback needed

I think the kick and snare could be more proeminent in the song, though the OH's volume is fine to me. The vocals are fine, nice double track going on. Bass is fine aswell and I think you could raise the guitars a little bit.

    My band's live mix.

Hey guys. I recorded and mixed a live performance of my own band in a studio. I want too see you guys opinions about it. The recording setup was: Guitars: SM57's right in front of the amps Bass: D.I. Drums: Two Overheads placed using the Glyn Jon's tech, a D112 on the kick and a Beta57 on the...
