    Mixing in mono.

The moves are just moving the faders up or down and rarely a little bit of compression on something. But I do hit the mono button with somethings in the mixed panned. Especially with guitars this can be really helpful, to me, at least.

    Mixing in mono.

Yes, I do make panning decision even in mono. The guitar parts especially are the part of where I hear a huge difference. In stereo they sound okay, but then again, I put in mono and it sounds waaay loud. Then I just pull down the faders and I realize that the guitars where too loud all along...

Finally tried the "Songs For The Deaf" drum layering technique

I liked how the drums turned out. It sounds really natural dude. I'm definately going to try this out next time I record drums! But explain a little bit more...you recorded first the drums without any cymbals, then you just overdubbed them? Good job, anyways.

    Mixing in mono.

Hey guys. Probably thats a subject that someone has already brought up...but anyways... I'm currently using a kind of old single speaker to mix some songs. I've been doing 50% of the mix in this speaker and 50% in my earbudds. It turned out that, making most of the moves in mono made the mix...

Completely recorded and mixed in my bedroom.

I think I'll post the lyrics in the soundcloud comments! They are real drums, because I've played them, lol. I'm not sure if it is a good thing though...because I guess I payed too much attention on playing it right and in tempo, that I've messed that up....

Completely recorded and mixed in my bedroom.

Hey man. Portuguese is kind of a tricky language. But I can send you the lyrics if you want...haha. What do you mean by MIDI sounding drums? And yeah, I guess the bends are something to work for...I'm catching too much slack in guitar solos.

    Indoctrination TV coming for you!

I think that the hi hat especially sounds too bright to the point of being a little harsh. But thats not a problem. Is just my opinion. I do have the same "issue" frequently on my mixes. What I am doing now is "dampening" the hi hat with a thin piece of cloth, so when I hit it hard it sounds...

Completely recorded and mixed in my bedroom.

Hey everyone. So I wrote this song in my bedroom. I played every instrument on this track as well. The one thing I experimented with this mix is mixing in one kind of old speaker lying in my bedroom, so 50% of the time I mixed in mono. Believe it or not when I switched to headphones the mix...

New Song - Trickle Down mix/critique

I liked the first mix way more than the second. I loved the loud synth. The second one is okay, but to me it lacks personality.

    I recorded/mixed these two songs...any feedback?

I think that in the first mix is sounding a little bit dark. But thats not a problem for me, I would listen to it any way. The song is really good. Now the second one is AMAZING. I loved how the drums sounds real...it sounds like a fuckin mess, and thats how a drum set should sound in a song...

    Indoctrination TV coming for you!

Hey, I like the mix. The only critique I have to do is that I thought the drums sounded kind of too harsh. But maybe that was a decision that you were aiming for. The lyrics are good and your voice sounds terrific on this one. Good job, man.

Hi guys can you help me with this mix?

Its funny, I think that the guitars added personality to the mix. It reminds me a lot of Sonic Youth's stuff. I loved the song and the mix! To me its a great job and I think I need to hear more "imperfect" mixes like these. I said imperfect because it sounds not like modern rock...in fact it...

    headphone splitter?

No, actually there is no reduction on the amplitude of the signal if you connect a splitter because it does not contain a significant resistance. Be sure to buy a stereo splitter though (I'm not sure if there is mono ones...) Oh, and about only hearing your own voices, just mute everything else...

    Wasting Light Microphone

Hey guys! I was watching a clip of the FF recording Wasting Light and in the song "I Should Have Known" I noticed that Dave sang the vocals really really close to the mic. I wonder if you guys know what is the exact mic he is using...here is the link to the video...

    One Mic Session

Thanks Bruthish. Just one more info which could help you picture the situation...I place the mic exactly below the camera! We had to "tune" the band prior to record, because once recorded, I couldnt really fix it, cause its live and all. (And I would never fix it anyways.)

    Recording Reggae

Rene almost summed it all up. I'm not a reggae player, but recording-wise I'm currently doing the following in order to achieve a desired tone. First you gotta hear your guitar amp. Fiddle with it until you think it sounds good. Then you place the mic or mics. Second, I place two mics on the...

    Reliable 4 Channel Interface

I have the Presonus 44VSL and I think its great! The preamps are pretty clean and the interface comes with Studio One, which is my favorite DAW. I think I'll change it for the 1818VSL which has 8 inputs maybe next year.

    One Mic Session

Hey everyone. I, along with some friends, have started to organize some sessions mainly for local bands. We go in, record three songs during their rehearsal and then we publish and share it on Youtube. Much like Violinist Sessions or any other "sessions" we can find on youtube. The main deal...

    ghosts are not alone

I liked the song, but I wish it was longer. It reminds me of something that could be on Beck's Mellow Gold. Mixing wise I think the vocals sounds a touch too upfront...but nothing bad about it....maybe that was your intention.

Can you give a feedback to this mix?

I liked the vocals, but what striked me was the acoustic guitar. It sounds REALLY good to my ears. How did you place your mic or mics?
