    788 question

Hi, I don't have a 788, but I'm considering buying a used 788 with the 788CDRW drive, and I'm wondering how well it will work as an auxliary mixer, recorder, and burner for my analog home studio. I use an older Tascam M-308B mixer and a Fostex A-8 open reel analog 8-trk machine. I like this...

Old vs. new for budget mixer?

Thanks, Manning. I know this isn't like Neve vs. Trident, or any thing like that. The Yamaha's nice and small......it might be a handy satelite board to the Tascam. Someday when I have more money and more room I'll get a real one, but the old Tascams kinda neat...good eqs on it. Thanks!

Old vs. new for budget mixer?

Hi folks, I've outgrown my Tascam M-308B mixer, and I'm looking for something to expand it or replace it. I record to a Fostex reel-to-reel 8-trk, but I've now built up more midi'd synths and effects, plus the tape returns, than I have inputs for. I like the way my Tascam M-308B mixer sounds...

What is a good, basic MIDI router?

Thanks for that info, Tex. I thought MOTU was strictly computer stuff. I'll check those companies out.

What is a good, basic MIDI router?

Hi folks, I've got about eight MIDI units that send and receive MIDI from a Roland MC500 sequencer. Some of these units don't have MIDI thru, and sometimes I like to plug different units into the MIDI in on the MC500. I've been just swapping cables around to suit what ever I need to do at any...

    Fostex B-16 vs. G-16 vs. E-16: what's the diff?

Thanks a lot, again, for the excellent info--This really helps me out. It sounds like the E's the way to go. I'm pretty happy with the sound of my A-8, but having 16 tracks will be great.

    Fostex B-16 vs. G-16 vs. E-16: what's the diff?

Hey Muttley, thanks a lot for that info, that really helps. The G-16 is the cheapest out of the bunch at $500; the E-16 is $800, and the B-16 is $700, and all are supposed to be in excellent condition. (I can't see someone getting 8 bills for a used Fostex analog machine, even if it's a 16-trk...

    Fostex B-16 vs. G-16 vs. E-16: what's the diff?

HI Folks, could someone please give me, or direct me to, a basic comparison and opinions between the Fostex B-16, the Fostex E-16, and the Fostex G-16. I'm looking to upgrade from my old Fostex A-8 8-trk to a 16-trk analog machine, and all three of this are available in my area. I'm trying to...

Thanks a lot LooneyTunez! that's the stuff I need, I think...kind of pricey but it looks good. Anyone used the Quiet PC stuff?

Silent computer cases for building a quiet PC: sources, recommendations?

Hi folks, I've decided that I really need to get a computer for my ghetto home studio (mostly for midi sequencing and mixing to CD, but who knows what else once I get it...probably at least for using softsynths and virtual outboard gear). After reading posts here I think I'd like to go ahead and...

Studiomaster Series II 24/8 console: any good?

I like it a lot....I've thought about finding another one and patching them together for more inputs. They go for pretty cheap....I think I got mine with a Fostex A-8 for something like $250. It sounds good...it's not great, but it does the trick, the EQ works well, XLR with phantom power for...

Studiomaster Series II 24/8 console: any good?

Hey folks, I need to replace or add a second console to my old Tascam M-308B mixer, as I've run out of inputs. There is a used Studiomaster Series II 24/8 console going for $400 here with one custom mic-pre and an upgraded power supply. Are these consoles any good? I actually like my Tascam...

Finally got a mixdown machine--thanks for the help I got here

I should be getting a computer for making music in the next couple of months, and I'll get a CD burner, sound card, etc., with the computer. This tape machine fills my need right now, the price was right, and I want an anlog machine for working with tape, so yea, I'm happy, although I see the...

Best cable to use, and where to get it

What about wire gauge? Thanks for the feedback.....I'll try to locate some Mogami wire or cable...worse-comes-to-worse the Hosa will get me by, it sounds like. I probably should've asked this, too: for sending the mixer's stereo signal to and from the mix-down 2-trk, is there a required wire...

Best cable to use, and where to get it

Howdy, I need to get some cables/wires to hook-up a 2-trk machine to a mixer. The 2-trk is XLR in and out, and the mixer is XLR out for the stereo buss out, and RCA in for the tape machine return, so I need two XLR to XLR cables and two female XLR to RCA cables. The 2-trk will be a mixdown...

Finally got a mixdown machine--thanks for the help I got here

I solicited a lot of questions about options for mixdown machines and formats here a while ago, and I got a lot of really good information. Just want to say thanks to the forum....this is a positive place :) . I was looking for a minidisc deck, but yesterday I found an Otari MX5050 Mk.III-2 1/4"...

Narrowing it down: used Crown DC-300A-2 vs. new Hafler TA-1600

That sounds like an interesting alternative, might offer some nice flexablity in a home studio. These look like nice amps. What this price on these, who seels them in the US? Thanks, Cliff
