    iBook and Powerbook questions

Hi folks, I've decided to buy an Apple laptop as my new computer. I'll be using it for standard home and business computing, and of course audio. I currently use a combination of analog gear and a Tascam 788, and I'm excited to add a good computer to the setup, but I don't have a lot of...

788...help! Problem with playback, please help!!

Problem solved!:D I somehow, and without realizing it, had assigned the stereo output to tracks 1 & 2; hence, the only thing coming out of the stereo output was those two tracks. I must have done this somehow when I was assigning effects 2 to the stereo buss (doh!). From the stereo output...

788...help! Problem with playback, please help!!

Yea, LB will makes things act strangely, but I'm afraid I'm stuck here for a while. This happens whether the tracks are assigned to the faders or assigned to te cue mixer. I've tried everything: the fader are in "real" mode, I've tried unplugging everything, making copies, resettting everything...

788...help! Problem with playback, please help!!

Hi folks.....I'm having a problem with my 788 playing back a song. We recorded a song yesterday, recorded a total of 9 tracks, everything was cool, then when I was mixing I assigned effects 1 to the send and effects 2 to the stereo buss, and now when I play back the song this is what happens...

TRS balanced plug okay in 1/4" unbalanced jack?

One snake will go from a balanced 1/4" patchbay to the unbalanced line ins on a mixer, the other snake will go from the same patchbay to the inputs and aux sends/returns on a Tascam 788. The 788 has balanced 1/4" inputs. So the only balanced connections are the patchbay and the inputs for the...

TRS balanced plug okay in 1/4" unbalanced jack?

Thanks a lot for your response, Pauly. Okay, so this will work then, or will there be problems with things being out of phase?

TRS balanced plug okay in 1/4" unbalanced jack?

Hi, I apologize if this has been covered before as I know redundant questions slow everything down--I'm sure it must have been, but I couldn't find the answer with a search. I just want to check before I order some snakes: is there any problem using cables with balanced TRS 1/4" plugs for going...

Are Jade Audio brand cables good?

I can't find info on these (did a search, no luck), but musicansfriend.com is selling an 8x8 TRS snake for $15. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/sid=040117132857067101107145022549/g=home/search/detail/base_pid/339062/ They look like HOSA stuff, which I know is not great, but I don't think...

Tascam 788: noisy drives; is this normal?

Hey philboyd, He said that he got it as an upgrade from Tascam when he upgraded the OS. 7.5 gigs to 10 gigs doesn't seem like much, but I guess it's something. I'm going to look into the 40 gig suggestion of Arranger's once I get a good feel for this machine and how much the disc will hold. I'm...

    788 question

Saul: You da Man! Thanks, that's it, it works when I'm in the "song" screen. I was trying to do this from the "home" screen. Thanks (again!) for helping my lame digi-newbie ass out, it's much appreciated. Cheers!

    788 question

Thanks, man! This machine's very cool. It's got version 2.02 OS on it. The previous owner was using it to move wave files to and from his computer....seems like a pretty handy feature. Right now I've got the stereo buss out from my bigger mixer going into inputs A and B on the 788 and I've been...

    Fostex 8-track

Fostex 1/4" 8-trk is great. I picked up a Fostex A-8 (I think this was the first version with old needle VU meters) for cheap about four years ago and have been using it regularly with no problems. It's a good sounding machine, very musical and warm. When I first got mine I found a 1/4" splicing...

Tascam 788: noisy drives; is this normal?

Arranger: Thank you very very much. Man, that is great, specific helpful information. Now I know the bigger picture with these machines, and some specific options and solutions to investigate. I'll have to think about isolating it or an enclosure. You're right about the SCSI drive: it's better...

Tascam 788: noisy drives; is this normal?

Thanks for the idea. I guess I'll see how fast I fill up the hard drive, and how unmanagable the noise is. Seems like a good idea to bump it up. I don't see why the previous owner would upgrade to only a 10 gig drive from the 7.5 gig drive when there are larger drives to go with; also, I would...

Tascam 788: noisy drives; is this normal?

Howdy folks, I just bought a used Tascam 788 with the Tascam 788CDRW drive. So far it seems like an awesome machine, very powerful and flexible, sounds great. The previous owner had upgraded the hard drive from the standard 7.5 gig drive to a 10 gig drive from Tascam when he upgraded the...

    788 question

I bought the 788: I think it's going to work out fine for me. It seems very flexible, and with all of the virtual tracks, the MIDI, and the CD burner I think there's a lot I can do with it. The drives seem pretty noisy, though, both the hard drive and the CD drive: is this normal? It seems like...

    788 question

Thanks a lot for the input, Saul. It sounds like a good deal, and it will probably do a lot for me. I guess I can probably sell it for what it'll cost me if it doesn't work out....I may go check it out tomorrow. I'm looking at it as a compromise as an aux mixer, but it will give me more tracks...
