Thank you--I appreciate your advice. Just to complicate it a bit more, I've now found a 16 channel TAC Scorpion board that fits my budget.......so, any thoughts on the Scorpion vs. the Tascam and/or the Soundcraft? I'm going to try to check them out this week if I can make the travel time, but...
Hi folks,
I'm looking to move up from my old beloved Tascal M-308B to a larger board. There are three in my area that I am interested in, and I was hoping to get some advice and impressions on these.
The boards in questions are:
1) Tascam M-520. 20 inputs. This is the board that I am most...
Hi,
which one do you think has better sound, eq, mic pres, is quieter? I've been looking for a Tascam M-520, and saw a Soundcraft 400B for sale for about the same price range ($500). I think the Soundcraft is 16 inputs whereas the Tascam has 20 inputs. I'm just wondering if the Soundcraft 400B...
Hello Tascam folks:
I'm considering buying a 520 mixing board and I have found two that are available; unfortunately neither person has any of the manuals for the boards. I can get by without the books, but I'd like to have them if I get a 520 (I've got an M-308B and the manuals and schematics...
Hi folks,
I'm thinking about getting an Allen and Heath System 8 16 input 8 buss console. Are these any good, any things to look for or look out for on these? It's suppose to be in very good condition, with the power supply, just some burnt out meter lights (it's got old style needle VU meters)...
Does any one use these? Someone gave me one, and I'm just curious what they are good for, if there are any tips for using them, etc. I know nothing about these, or about condenser mics in general. I have an SM58 and I friend gave me this to use for recording acoustic guitar and vocals.
Thanks!
I have had Hosa cables die on me, and they are not user servicable because they are a molded plug, as I think the Jade are, too. When you get yours please post your opinion on them...the price sure is right. :)
I just noticed that in my last post I said, in reference to Hosa, "they are...
Hey Scooter,
I ended up going to Guitar Center to see if they had the Jade snakes, and they didn't, but they sold me the same thing in Hosa for the price of the Jade (knocked off about %50 on the Hosa snakes). So, if you don't like the Jade, try getting Guitar Center to sell you Hosa for the...
I've noticed that some new Macs have a Firewire 400 port and a Firewire 800 port. I'm assuming that the Fire 400 port is what a standard Firewire device connects to, as the 800 jacks and 400 jacks are different sizes. What uses Firewire 800? Is this the new standard, or is it a moot point for...
It looks like both Logic and Digital Performer are really good, powerful. Are they significantly different from each other? What sort of things matter when deciding between the two?
Thanks!
Cliff
What's the best? I'll be getting a new Powerbook soon, and would like to get a sense of the software I should run on. I'd like to be able do all stages of the process with the software: record, mix, edit, master, also interface with MIDI hardware and instruments, and also work well with...
Re: Another question
Het Alanfc,
Riveras are great, Paul Rivera is the man. I have an R100 and I had an S120 (the stereo companion to the M amps). I sold the S120 because it was overkill, but I really really regret selling it. As I understand it, the R series was sort of stripped-down M...
Thanks again Noisedude. Those sites are cool...not too much Mac stuff, but lots of tech data to get me more up tp speed with the technologies. Yea, I'll definately get a faster external drive......it seems like 7200 rmp is the standard and I can get a pretty large HDD for about the same cost as...
Alright, so I guess I'll be getting an external HD as the fastest drive I can get in a Powerbook is 5400 rpm, and that's with about $160 upgrade. So, is Firewire 400 good enough to do multi track work with a laptop and external HD, or do I need bump up to the Firewire 800 option? (that's part of...
Thanks for the info, guys, it's a help.
Noisedude: one of the differences between the iBook and the Powerbook is that the Powerbook has a Firewire 400 port and a Firewire 800 port, the iBook is only 400 (I'm trying to decide which laptop and configuration to buy). Also, the standard HDs for...
I haven't had much luck with my questions about configuring an Apple laptop, so let me ask it more directly:
For music, how much ram do I need? is firewire 400 fast enough, or do I need firewire 800? is 4200 rpm fast enough for a hard drive?
This info will help a lot before I buy.
Much...
