skip it and find a 424 mkII. the things are so cheap now and it walks all over the porta 02 mkII (i've owned both). 4 tracks don't necessarily sound lofi. from what i remember, the 424 mkII sounded pretty nice. of course you'll have some tape hiss but that goes with the territory. like...
height changes your high/mid/low ratio. lowering them will give you more highs. not more than what's already there, but the ration changes. know what i mean? just think of it as, lower pickup = thinner, higher pickup = thicker.
believe me. i don't like it but using an amp in hotel rooms is pretty much out of the question. also, i might be in a town for 4 hours or 2 weeks. i have to be able to pack up at a moments notice. the only reason i'm using the toneport is convenience.
reaper is kick arse. some are wanting better midi editing and automation. for my current needs and forseeable needs, reaper has it all 99% covered and then some.
