    The New Tone Thread

:laughings: This is why I steer clear of floyd rose type bridges altogether. About 15 years ago I had an RG something or other and almost lost an eye during a string change. Not sure what went wrong where but I was tensioning them up before I locked down the nut and had the D string pop out...

    LP terminology...

I've got one of those; a 2014 SGJ with the special happy anniversary logo inlayed at the 12th fret. Glad to hear that you can go play it - it's a great guitar but the neck is a little chunky (IMO) and it'd be worth putting your hands on before you commit to buying. All things considered, it's...

    LP terminology...

The 2016s are still using the zero fret; not sure if that is across the board or only on select models but it's for sure still there.

    LP terminology...

^^This is what I was trying to say. Instead of saying it outright, I was trying to be a little more diplomatic about it. :D

    LP terminology...

Tadpui nailed it on the neck description and the pickups - I will go ahead and second the sentiment to avoid ceramic humbuckers as well. FWIW, my LP Studio has the coil tap/coil split option and all I can say is that it is simply a waste of a few DPDT potentiometers. I think I tapped them...

Can you educate me on pedal boards and power supplies?

I haven't looked into building a board in over 10 years; I don't gig anymore so I don't really have any use for one. That, and I've got a shit ton of pedals and it's just easier to pull them out and set them on the floor when I need them. I imagine that it wouldn't be too difficult unless you...

Can you educate me on pedal boards and power supplies?

I've got that flanger, won't be able to build it for a while but glad to hear you like it. Have you looked into the pedaltrain boards? They seem to be fairly liked and one that would fit 4-6 pedals, including a wah, aren't too expensive. As far as the power supply goes, you could probably get...

    The New Tone Thread

And shit, I guess I better just quit lurking around for once... Tadpui, that firefly fuzz sounds badass. That very first setting was where it's at for my taste. You ever given the wampler velvet a go? More to follow...gotta catch up here. :D

    The New Tone Thread

Miner, that tone you're getting at around 3:05 is badass, IMO, YMMV, etc. Sounds like that SG is working out for you pretty damn good so far - not sure if it's any different with your LP but that tone, like I said, starting around 3:05 just has a nice bite to it. Good shit!

Which of these microphones should I get?

    +1 for the NT1a

Got a few mics, an outboard pre and a guitar pedal up for sale

All of these are up on Reverb but I figured I'd share the word here just in case anyone sees something in the list they could use. Here's the link to my Reverb shop if you see anything in this list that you're interested in. AKG C3000 large-diaphragm condenser mic $215.00 (2) Audix F5 dynamic...

can you recommend a small amp that does clean well?

For all these clips I used an American Fender strat, ash body with maple neck/fretboard, that's loaded with Texas Special single coils. 15ft cable directly into each amp, no pedals, and I used an Audix i5 on axis usually around 1" off the edge of the speaker. The i5 went through the stock...

    Best digital piano sound help

Pianoteq is good; another to try out is Synthogy's Ivory II. You essentially have to buy individual pianos that way but the sound is pretty awesome. I went with the American Concert D version of Ivory on a recommendation and it hasn't disappointed. I am a lowly guitar player though so I'm not...

can you recommend a small amp that does clean well?

+1 for the Creamback... I tried both and even without a broken-in speaker the Creamback model blew the other away. It's no Vintage 30 like the Orange has but it's got a good sound of its own.

can you recommend a small amp that does clean well?

No, I didn't reamp... I guess that would have made life a little easier though! Each one was played individually - kind of got carried away playing through each amp during the process and having fun with it along the way. :guitar:

can you recommend a small amp that does clean well?

A few more, just for shits and giggles. Fender Vaporizer 12watt 2x10" combo that I got on the cheap a little over a week ago. Gotta love young metalheads that buy an amp just because it has tubes in it. :D Vaporizer Normal Channel Vaporizer Bright Channel And last, but not least, the...

can you recommend a small amp that does clean well?

Ok, here is another clip. Same riff as yesterdays to keep it a little objective. Same setup - Audix i5 on axis through a focusrite saffire pro40 stock preamp, nothing added in post. Fender US strat with texas specials starting with the neck and switching to the bridge midway through. Again...

can you recommend a small amp that does clean well?

I dig the Orange more than any of them; it just seems more balanced than any of the others. That Blues Jr. sounds way better when it's pushed to breakup though - I don't really think it works as a clean amp, especially with the mods done. I'm going to throw up samples of 3 other amps later on...

can you recommend a small amp that does clean well?

Ok, I am pretty sure I got the dropbox thing figured out (look out tone thread, here I come...). I spent a little time this evening recording a few of my little combos to give an idea of the clean channels of the amps for the OP. All were recorded with an Audix i5 with a little time spent on...

    Fender Hotrod Deluxe owners...quick question

I think we were talking about an amp that doesn't have a very linear volume control... :thumbs up: I just got my dropbox set up; links to amp samples will be posted to the "small amp for clean tones" thread shortly.
