    Just a bit intimidated...

Reaper (Cockos) has a pretty supportive user group that makes up their forum - so as well as it simply being more featured than mixcraft I'd argue that support is much better from Cockos.

Audio Interface Vs Small Mixing Board

The zed is a great mixer - it's pres are class A. But it's USB only sends a stereo pair - 12 into 2 (I think it's a limitation of USB-1) to DAW; whereas most IA's will send all inputs separately. He hasn't got 6 tracks - he has 6 inputs going into 2 tracks It's not just much better for...

Audio Interface Vs Small Mixing Board

That really depends on what and how you play... But whatever - as a source selector it'll certainly do the job but I maintain that it's far more limited than an AI to DAW.

Audio Interface Vs Small Mixing Board

Time. The ability to jam with multiple synths/modules and be able to record them to separate tracks in your DAW... The Zed sends all channels as one stereo track (unless I've missed something huge?!) so you massively lose out on editability (I'm fully aware that I just made up a word here). If...

Audio Interface Vs Small Mixing Board

I'd go for an 8in/8out interface like the Roland OctaCapture over the Zed12 myself.

    What monitors do you use?

Yamaha HS-7's and Audio Technica ATH-50X headphones.

    I need the perfect controller(s)

If I ran with Ableton I'd definitely be looking at the MKII version of Push...

Members average number of mics and a list...

Now down to just one mic (sold a load of gear to buy more gear), the SE2200 MKII. Wish I still had a dynamic - so looking at the Rode Procaster.

Recording Vinyl via usb soundcard to Ableton

1210's definitely need a phono preamp - or go into soundcard via your DJ mixer (which should have 2 minimum). I got lucky the only good thing about my cheap ass TT is that it has a preamp built in!

    first ep...advice?

Having grown up in rehearsal rooms I think you might be better served looking at an old Akai DPS12 and 6 of the cheapest dynamic mics you can get your hands on.

Recording via Mixing Deck and an iMac Desktop Computer

I use the UCA222 (updated 202) to get audio into my iPad. For the price (30 quid) you can't beat it. But mjbphotos is absolutely right.

Buying first recording setup for Alto Sax

I agree with Chilli on the equipment front - I've got an SE2200mp MKII and don't think there's a better mic in that price bracket. I rate SE. But you problems are going to start at point of mix due to the source of your backing tracks. Where possible - try to obtain stems of the tracks you want...

    Athletic wear vs Speaker Fabric

I used old duvet covers and a staple gun on mine.

    Three Mic Drum Techniques?

My old band got our best drum sound with 3 mics set up similar to what Nate74 suggests, although we used 2 SM58's (kick and snare) and an Oktava219 nearly 2 metres away. Bass amp was turned down very low and DI'd - we recorded guitars and vocals separately.

Budget ribbon / condenser mic to pair with sm 57 - metal guitars

Superlux R102's go pretty cheap... Can be quite dark sounding but takes EQ well. I sold mine to pay for an MPC500 (which I hated and sold) but it was a useful mic. It's a phantom powered ribbon mic. Sounded quite good on acoustic guitar.

What software can I use on ubuntu?

If you talking about the early versions of Fruity Loops then I'd agree but the current FL-Studio (not sure if it's 11 or 12) is definitely a fully featured Digital Audio Workstation. It definitely lends itself more to electronic music than rocknroll granted.

What software can I use on ubuntu?

I tried Ardour for a while on my little netbook and quite liked it... I had some pretty major issues getting my audio interface (Focusrite 2i2) to play nicely with Mint though so I gave it up... A mate of mine is running BitWig on his Linux machine - he had a fair amount of driver trouble (midi...

    let me see your studio!

My little attic. This is my attic. The roof is eaved so there's not a lot of standing space; means I only have a mic set up when I really need to.... Vocals, acoustic & the odd bit of percussion... It's packed up otherwise. The unusable eaves are storage for family stuff (camping gear, winter...

    New synth player questions

Out of interest... Just how traumatic a procedure was that? I've opened up and cleaned the faders of an old DPS12i but that's as much as I've ever done repair wise on audio gear besides the odd mic cable solder job... That you have both is awesome... I was very close to picking up the AN200...

    New synth player questions

It's pretty clean - there's noise if you drive it hard. I tend to use it in the composition stage and then sample each part into Maschine direct from the 2i2... It's a ZMX52 - 5 channel (or 1mono/2stereo) I won the Erebus in a comp... It sounds great but I'm not sure whether I'll keep it... I...
