El Barto, Maybe you're just expecting too great of a difference. Recording is a game of subtlety and detail. You don't hear a "great difference" between them because there isn't one. It's more of a "this mic accents the new string sound more" or "this one masks the droning overtones from the...

    Does size(length) really matter?

High quality cables are pretty expensive! VCR's are cheap. Monster 21 foot Studio Pro cable 149.95 X 2= $299.90 A Hi-Fi VCR is only about $200.00..... Of course, you could probably get by with a lesser cable. Just keep in mind that a second VCR may cheaper in the long run, especially if you buy...

    Mike "Shootout" web page

Very cool. The difference between the different mics, even the two that are supposed to be the same, is very apparent. I didn't think that any of these mics sounded much better or worse than the others, but they were certainly different. I guess that's why some guys have so many different mics...

How important is humidity for mics?

I don't put mine back in the box. It's too bothersome to deal with the shock mounts and all. I use felt bags with drawstrings on them. The kind that come with Crown Royal Whiskey. Just cover the mic and leave on the stand. I haven't put a crystal pack inside but I guess it might be a good idea.

    Cheesy Effect unit

Hey Sir Lee, No, it doesn't even cost that much new! They're 111.99 at musicians fiend and could swear I've seen 'em cheaper than that.

    Cheesy Effect unit

When I listened to one of these, I thought it was more of a Nacho Cheesy. :D But seriously, even a cheesy effect can be useful. Sometimes cheesy is good. Even though you probably wouldn't go out and buy one, if it was free....what the heck. I'll bet you can find SOME use for it. I have a...

Are you scared? (and a note to ametth)

Hey Brad, Good stuff, I listened to all three. I liked Epistaxis..but..I didn't give me the feeling of speed and power that I would expect to hear behind motorsport footage. Good riffs and production though. Witch Weigh gets three snaps in circle, VERY good. I think you really hit your target...

    Need equalizer advice. . .

I don't think you'll get monitors that are "it" for under $600, but you can get really nice ones in that range. Everyone has their favorites, it's kind of like asking "who makes the best guitars?". I use KRKs myself, and I love 'em. A lot of people here seem to use the Events. The way to buy...

    Drums and drummers suck!

Real drummers are great if you have the resources to deal with a kit(mics and a decent room) but I've never had my drum machine drink all my booze and hit on my girlfriend. I guess there's alway a trade off. :)

    Need equalizer advice. . .

That's some good advice from jnorman, but I would ask if a graphic EQ is really what you're looking for. The only thing I really use my graphic EQ for is "EQing" my listening environment. That is, making up for the sonic shortcomings of the room I'm in. For recording your money might be better...

    Beautiful "Sounding" Music

I agree, go with the compressor/limiter/gate. Next question would be...which one? If you do a search on this site for compressor you'll find more suggestions and info than you probably want.

    Behringer Composer (One more question)

Yep, you will. It won't hurt the unit to use unbalanced but when I tried with it my Behringer, it caused a grounding problem that screwed up my stereo imaging and generated noise.

    Adat vs. Hardisk

I decided on ADAT. Mainly because when I needed to go to 16 tracks, I just added another ADAT. The all in one boxes are nice and certainly more portable, but I like the flexibility, expanability and standardization of ADAT.

    my own Ringo Starr

Gotta agree about the DR-770. Nice box, I love mine. But, that Akai will do some things that the Boss won't, like the ability to store and use your own samples, individual outputs for each sound (up to 8 I think with the expansion module). It's a lot more expandable and is really more than just...

    Synth question

If the Yamaha has MIDI outs on it, you can use it just as a keyboard. Check out the Alesis Nano-Synth module, it's got some cool sounds (including pianos) and it's about $300.

    Alesis QSR Module

Thanks for the reply. I'm headin' out to buy insert cables tonight, so I think I'll test drive one.

    rack mounts

I did this a couple of months ago. First off, buy the pre-drilled metal rails. They're already drilled and tapped on 1/2" centers. You can't realistically build the side rails out of wood, if that's what you're planning. They won't be strong enough and you can't tap wood... As far as the...

What do ya think about the Shure KSM 32 (vs. NT-2, etc.)?

I can't give you a comparison between those two, but I have KSM32 and an AT 4033. I don't think that you do can much better than the KSM32 for the money. It's VERY flexible, sounds good in a lot of different situations.
