    Talk tubes to me.

Virtual.ray, You're correct, there is another tube for the reverb in addition to the 4 12AX7s. It's a 12 something or other but I didn't list that one because I didn't believe it to be part of the problem. I could do the swap thing but I don't think I'd be able to get tubes with close enough...

    Talk tubes to me.

I've got a 20 year old Acoustic 100 watt amp head, the brand not the type. It's got the original tubes in it and it's starting to sound really bad. It has 4 6L6 tubes and 4 12AX7A tubes in it. It's gonna be several hundred dollars to replace them all, so I thought I'd see if anyone has any...

The plan has grown and so has my site

VERY nice. I checked out your website last night. It's very well done, excellent explanations, very informative. It made me want to hit the lumber yard and break out a hammer.

    Oh-So-Important NT1 Tip

How long did it take you to figure it out? I'll bet that was pretty frustrating.

    New to recording

McMarkup,HEHE. They've really lowered their prices since Guitar Satan and Mars came to town, but I still don't shop there because of the way they were hosin' us in the past. I never noticed that you were from here before, Track Rat. Did you just add your location to your profile?

    New to recording

Wow, somebody else from my part of the world !! Welcome. Yep, the 57's & 58's are a start, but you're gonna need some condensor mics. The amount that you're willing to spend will narrow the field of possibilties greatly. Do you have a mic budget yet?

    METAL

I was wondering the same thing Daddy-O. I wouldn't consider a 60's Ampeg to be a piece of shit. It may not be the ultimate amp for your type of music, but if it was a piece of shit, you wouldn't be getting that tone you like, no matter how much EQ you applied. Which model is it Gargamel?

    New to recording

Well, your next mic purchase should probably be a large diaphram condensor and a decent tube preamp. The reason I asked about budget is that you can spend anywhere from $300 to $30000 on those two items. I would suggest going to the MARS store in Bridgeton where they have all the mics setup to...

    rode nt-2 or shure ksm-32

That's because there is no clear answer. If you wer to ask,"which is better, an AT4033 or a Blue Mouse?", you'd probably get a clear answer. But, with mics you generally get what you pay for. Mics in a given price range are usually of similar quality. They do sound slightly different though...

    NT3???

Is it possible to get these in a matched set?

    A nice vocal effect.

From what I can remember of that song, I believe they use a reverse reverb on the line "take a ride on the" and the "wild side" is left up front.

    dented frets

Tapehead's right. Most guitars can have several fret filings done before they need to be replaced. It depends on how deep the dents are though. If they're to badly worn, you'll need a re-fret. If this is the case, find a pro that you can trust. Ask around and find out who the "go to guy" is in...

    shockmounts on Octava mc-012?

WHERE you're recording makes as much of a difference as WHAT you're recording. I use shock mounts on all my mics, including the dynamics, because I get tractors going by my house. They aren't very audible from inside, but the vibrations go from the floor right up the mic stand. Before I started...

    CAD E100 vs...?

Thanks for not disappointing us RE. But you forgot to say "from the Sound Room only" :) CT For a little more, you might want to check out the Shure KSM32. I have a 4033 and a KSM32 and the Shure is a little more flexible. But if not, like everyone said, the 4033 is pretty decent.

    Dumbest Guitar Trade

I had a mandolin, it was Gibson knock off but played pretty well. I hocked it for cash to go on a fishing trip to the Sierras. I didn't catch a single fish...serves me right.

    Worlds Worst Guitar!

I don't know about the "World's Worst", but the worst I've ever owned was my first electric. It was Decca hollow body with a sunburst finish. I paid fifty bucks for it, new.

    New Mackie HD Recorder

Yeah, the pricetag is conspicuously missing. I have no idea what they plan to charge for it, but I'd expect maybe $5000 to $6000?
