    is it all hype?

Your gear can handle unlimited frequencies? Wow! I'd like to hear that. Oh, hang on, I wouldn't be able to. Seriously, i've worked with very top end analogue gear over the years before I retired and I never saw a single microphone, monitor speaker or recorder that didn't have published...

    is it all hype?

16 bit gives a dynamic range of aroud 96dB and a sample rate of 44.1kHz gives an upper frequency of 22,050Hz. I'd be very surprised if you can hear anywhere near that high (and more surprised if you have reproduction equipment that can get up that high. The raw numbers of frequency response...

    is it all hype?

It's a sad fact of life that, as prices go up, the improvement you get for the extra money goes down. However, chances are that the $9000 mic is being used in a custom designed studio with acoustics done totally professionally. It's probably also being fed through a top of the line pre amp and...

Thoughts on the Neumann KMS 105

The KMS 105 is very much a favourite of mine for live work. It manages to combine a very warm, musical tone with lots of condenser detail. It suits some voices more than others (female vocals in particular) but i've yet to find a voice it doesn't work on. You need to be slightly careful with...

    Recording with compression settings

I record via a digital mixer and have the ability to add compression to every channel. I never use it (with the exception of a "but" I'm about to give). I usually DO have the compressors turned on but acting only as a hard limiter if any of my levels get near 0dB(FS). However, I set my gain...

Need help choosing a sound card (Audio Interface) with 4 xlr inputs.

It depends on the lav mics and how they will be used. The majority of lavs you see on TV or in theatre are used as radio mics. Connectors CAN be 3.5 mm (usually for cheaper transmit packs) but things like mini-XLR, LEMO and a host of others. In the radio mic world, the transmit pack provides...

Need help choosing a sound card (Audio Interface) with 4 xlr inputs.

I've never heard of moving a fader referred to as "to Jodrel" but I might just steal that one.

Need help choosing a sound card (Audio Interface) with 4 xlr inputs.

Thomann even have a Greek section on their website so they certainly ship there. They're certainly hard to beat (in Europe at least on price and service. THOMANN GREECE.

Help choosing a sound card (Audio Interface) with 1 xlr input

Once you start recording you will almost certainly want to experiment with stereo miking techniques for your guitar. Even if you don't use it initially, I'd suggest you go for 2 XLR inputs to cover the likely future. Two inputs don't cost double one and I can (almost) guarantee will save you...

Resolution of sound decreases by pulling down faders .....is there any such concept ?

For the record, audiophile always means to me a gullible person who pays over the odds for audio "benefits" not supported by measurements or science. Labs would obviously go the other way and studios can go either direction.

Looking for Good but cheap DAW's

I'm lucky to be able to use one of those monthly subscription DAWs but, if that ever ceases to be possible, Reaper is the way I'd go. As others have said, you can download the full version and try it as long as you like--and if it becomes your choice it's only $60 or $70 dollars to buy.

    Relfection filter for recording vocals

I've used the Reflection Filter Pro (the original) quite a bit with very good results. The addition of something a bit soft behind you (thick curtains, shelves of uneven books, that sort of thing) adds to the effect. When it was newly out I recorded an entire audio book with the author reading...

    High quality home studio

Yup. RME make great interfaces if you have the money. However, a number of ones a step of two down in price aren't that far behind. As Massive Master says, dollar for dollar, money spend on really good acoustic treatment will likely make a bigger difference to your end results. As for "rack...

    Good Vocal mic

There are lots of good vocal mics but which is best depends on your voice and also whether your taste is "warm and smooth" or "bright and detailed. A mic I use on a lot of people is the sE2200A (the cardioid only version). Worth a listen if you get a chance to try it.

Resolution of sound decreases by pulling down faders .....is there any such concept ?

Well, if I meet Commander Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation I'll ask him since he's an electronic man.

Resolution of sound decreases by pulling down faders .....is there any such concept ?

Are you sure you don't mean logarithmic rather than parabolic? In any case, as others have said, audio quality doesn't degrade if you turn your fader very low--but the ability to control things accurately does because the gaps between levels get progressively smaller.

Yes, the Focusrite 2i2 should be using its own drivers. You can download them from THIS SITE.

    Max digital volume and Monitors

Remember the days when anything electrical you bought just had bare wires and you had to install your own plug...because there were at least three "standard" sockets in the UK?

    Max digital volume and Monitors

Usually whatever I ordered at the Camden Brasserie plus several bottles of wine and a brandy or two to finish. My secretary knew not to book any afternoon meetings on days I was meeting the Ampex rep.

    Max digital volume and Monitors

I miss Ampex. I used my first piece of Ampex gear about 46 years ago and on the video side went through VR1000, 1200, 2000, AVR1. AVR2 quad recorders and then their badged versions of Beta SP gear, They also bought a darn good lunch for customers.
