innobidova presents: The Thread of Recent Acquisitions

I couldn't find a similar thread, so here it goes! Today, I got two AKG C414 B-ULS mics in perfect condition on ebay. They are mismatched from separate sellers, but they both come with frequency response charts so we'll see how they compare. I payed close to 600 USD for each. I hope that's not...

    Firewire Preamp!

Presonus Firepod is really popular. I have one, and feel right at home with it. RME Fireface is a step up from that, but may be overkill.

Which AMP to PICK?!?! please help

The hot rod deville is what I use. It's good for sparkling cleans, light drive, and wailing solos. I just so happen not to need it for anything else, so it's just right for me! I'd really like an Orange amp, though. The possibility of having good tone isn't nearly as limited if at all.

Which AMP to PICK?!?! please help

I think I have a pretty good suggestion. Use the $1300 for a 2x12 combo. It's lighter than a 4x12 cab alone, and eliminates the need for a separate piece like the head. It will also get very loud if it's tube. I play on a fifty watt 2x12 tube combo and never turn the volume past three when...

Tell me which Bass guitar is your favorite!

I voted Yamaha. The BB414 is just right for me, and the red burst is so cool. http://www.bonnersmusic.co.uk/acatalog/bb414.jpg

    is this uncommon?

If you're talking about separate areas within the same track, then no it isn't uncommon. I hear all the time that a single track can have dozens of edits and several plugins.

Help purchasing first pair of monitors.

I got my Alesis Active M1 MkII monitor pair for $225. The only real complaint you'll find on these is that there is too much bass response. The manual tells you what you can do to remedy this problem, though, so for me they are A-OK.

    Decent sounding guitar for recording

If you want a light guitar, look at the Yamaha RGX A2. It's the new futuristic-looking one, but it plays great, sounds great, and weighs only 5 lbs and 6 oz. It's $500 new. My MF catalog says it comes with a free Magicstomp pedal.

    yamaha FGX-04 acoustic

Sorry to resurrect an old post. I don't mean to hijack but, with similar enthusiasm as gvarko's, I just want to say that I'm in love with the FG750S. I played it last weekend at Guitar Center and it was my favorite one there. It has a really full and defined sound with tons of clarity and...

Tampa Or GT Brick Mic Pre? I'm torn...

IMO, neither the Tampa or Brick would be much of an upgrade from your joemeek, mackie, and digi. You seem to be looking 400-500 dollar range, but the only mid-priced preamps I've read about that are highly regarded (worth it) would cost a bit more. You may want to consider the FMR RNP, Safe...

Having second thoughts. Would like opinions!

I'm amused at how the auction ended right after I said it was on ebay. I didn't think I'd have to be discrete about it, but oh well. If the ebay user phaley3n4u is reading this, congratulations.

Okay, since I'm trying not to be so hung up on getting a brand new pair, I've looked into the older models. It looks like the B-ULS is the most popular. There is a B-ULS matched pair on the bay with a $1300 BIN and no starting bid. Is that reasonable? I think it's a little too much, but I'm very...
