    Re-location/build of Diesel Dungeon Studio!

All insulating/sound isolation done. Steel door cut down and installed. Gaps around door filled with Safe n Sound, foam filler (like really skinny pool noodles) and acoustic caulking. Still needs drywall, finishing touches and trim of course. View from inside View from outside (needs trim)...

    Re-location/build of Diesel Dungeon Studio!

Almost all of the ceiling Safe n Sound is up, I only left the problematic cavities that have hvac pipes as i will need to raise those pipes up slightly in order to put drywall flat across joists in ceiling. Also, how in the hell am I supposed to even put insulation in those cavities when the...

    Re-location/build of Diesel Dungeon Studio!

Thanks Bongo! Yeahs that's not a bad idea too I guess, never though of that. I may or may not, because I mean a small roll here is like $10. To cover ALL the ceiling and wall studs would probably cost too much for something that "might" help, ya know? Depends on where my budget sits after buying...

Diffusers in front of superchunk bass traps

Thanks Sheggs. Anyone else care to chime in? I'd have though anyone else with some good acoustics background would have said something by now?

ACOUSTICS GURUS: What do you think of my new studio plan?

You're the best, thanks for the reply! While I have you, I asked this in another thread but If I put some thin painted styrofoam diffuser "thingies" (aka Auralex Q Fusors), which i already own, in front of superchunks on the rear wall near drums, will that be ok as far as not affecting the low...

Diffusers in front of superchunk bass traps

That was exactly my intention. Since controls rooms a lot of times have rear wall diffusion, and since drums also can benefit from some diffusion, this serves dual purpose - Because it will be a one-room studio, drums on far wall behind mix position. THAT's where I am thinking of doing this...

Redux of an older amateurly recorded track

When I was in this cover band back in about 2006, we wanted some originals too as we were making a demo when I used to live with my parents. I had already recorded the drums and guitars before the band got together so I was like "record a guitar solo, bass track and vocal track and here's a...

Diffusers in front of superchunk bass traps

As you may have seen on here (sorry if I am getting annoying popping up here and there), I am rebuilding a new studio. I am contemplating doing superchunks or just keeping the 4" thick basstrap coner panels I have made. However, for the price, buying some pink fluffy to make super chunks out of...

ACOUSTICS GURUS: What do you think of my new studio plan?

Ethan Winer suggested this in another thread on here before (and elswhwere online). HEY ETHAN, where you at?! :p So he says, having a reflective surface (such as the FRK foil covering that comes on "faced" OC703, butcher paper, plastic wrap, or thin cardboard) on the front of a...

    Best lighting for basement studio

Another question in case anyone can help... For the tubular hvac ducts that run in between my ceiling joists, should I be wrapping them with some sort of acoustical insulation, or does it not matter, since they will not be hit with direct reflections since there will be drywall covering them up?

    Re-location/build of Diesel Dungeon Studio!

I finished filling all the gaps/protrusions (with acoustic non-drying caulk) that lead from in the studio to upstairs through the floor, like HVAC ducts, plumbing and cables. Pic is of one spot BEFORE I filled it. Picked up 5 of the 10 packs of Safe n' Sound for the interior wall and ceiling...

ACOUSTICS GURUS: What do you think of my new studio plan?

Alright gurus, so I am now smack dab in the middle of this construction (detailed thread with pics can be found here). Anyways, I am planning on sticking to the same plan i have drawn out here acoustically, except I am now contemplating doing superchunk bass traps instead of straddling. It...

    Re-location/build of Diesel Dungeon Studio!

Framing done for the "walled-off" area, more plugs installed, vapor barrier fully stapled/taped/trimmed. "QuietPutty" installed around plug/switch boxes. This prevents sound from transmitting through those spots in your walls (since you had to cut out drywall to expose the box). Every bit...

    Re-location/build of Diesel Dungeon Studio!

Vapor barrier up, electrical plugs wired up! If you'r wondering why there is mismatched insulation, it's because I salvaged what i could of the original stuff that was still usable. The rest of the junk gets stuffed into that bulk head you see in the 4th pic down. It's a steal I-beam, so I doubt...
