    drum machine/generator?

.. ah screw my whole lead in drum machine preach that I just deleted. I've had moderate success with hotstepper, fruity loops, boss's dr. rhythm, a yamaha TMX drum module, rhythm rascal, and probably a few other freebies along the line. They all end up sounding just OK. If you don't mind an...

    A strange, metal(ish) band I recorded.

hmmmm Some of the vox style reminds me of Rorshach (spelling?). I like their harsh vox, but not the emo stuff. To each his own. Not digging the rip off riffs from Sabbath. Weak attempt at humor and/or tribute. Great drummer. Everything is recording and mixed perfectly in my book. I love...

    monitoring problem?

... I don't monitor while recording because of that. When I do bass direct, I just pop the headphones off one ear, and listen to the bass as an acoustic. Doing vocals, I just listen and sing (ok, yell) to the music through headphones and play it back to check.

Critique my latest recording - heavy

... cool tune. Really dig the beginning, and the part around 2:30. Guitars sound very smooth; I didn't know the guitarport could rock like that! Snare seems to need to be reeled in somehow, but I don't know how to do that - a gate maybe? Toms sound killer. Hard to really critique the song...

Does somebody have a drumset they don't want?

... In the words of Sepultura, that was one Desperate Cry. +1 for effort though. Ever thought about a silly kid's drum set or something? Beat the living crap out of it and throw it away like a used diaper.

    Recording live amps?

... I drop on the headphones, crank it up, and my amp is right next to me, mic'ed. I can hear my playing cause the amp is cranked, but I also hear the mix cause that's cranked. Sometimes you think you need to hear more, but after it's recorded you realize you nailed it usually. Just make...

    Frustrated!!....

... I hear the snare needing to come down and the bass drum up, but other than that, it appears to hit the mark. It's all clean and clear, which isn't always easy to achieve.

    New metal tune, kinda cheesy

Just a solo thing to keep me from going crazy. I'm anxious to collab with some drummers from this site though that said they'd help out. thanks for listening and commenting.

    New metal tune, kinda cheesy

... yeah, I kind of mixed them slightly low, and they are also distorted a lot from the original. I really like Da Tube in Cubase for that. However, when I did that, they lost a lot of high end.

    New Metal Song

I found that by boosting the mid-low frequency range, I was able to save a kick once.

    New metal tune, kinda cheesy

I just watched their DVD like a week ago! They were one of my favorites back in the day. Weird how that stuff creeps in. Probably not a coincidence, but definitely subliminal.

    New Metal Song

... Everything seems to sit really well. I dig the mix-up around 2 min mark. There's an overall fizz or fuzz, I can't tell if it's in the guitars or maybe a clipping of something. But, it's not necessarily a bad thing, I just don't know if it's supposed to be there or not. If the bass...

    New metal tune, kinda cheesy

Thank you. I'll bump up the highs on the drums. This is my first recording using cubase, and it has a cool eq section on the mixer. I need to use it more though! -J

recording drums (as a guitarist) sucks.

... thanks for the tips and responses, ya'll. Every once in a while you just gotta vent. I'll try to keep it down to a dull roar though.

recording drums (as a guitarist) sucks.

I posted this at another site I go to, but I don't think anyone felt my pain. No matter how I do it, recording drums just sucks. I thought I'd crank out a QUICK 3-minute song yesterday, and I spent the whole day goofing with the drums. This time I used my drum module (a Yamaha TMX) and a DIY...
