what determines the playing dynamics on electronic drums

I believe it depends on the relationship between pad sensitivity and the extent to which a source has been multi-sampled. I could be wrong though.

    Cutting Hole in Bass Drum?

lol ugly bass drums sound 10% less bassy! :) I actually did this on my last set of skins and it worked fine, was quite neat. I wouldn't trust my accuracy with an exacto either.

    Cutting Hole in Bass Drum?

Why not burn? Get a can of tuna, eat the tuna, put the rim on the stove and use it like a cookie-cutter on your reso skin. Do it outside and put something bahind the skin.

How can you afford to build a drum room but not afford an e-kit? They're more wallet-friendly these days.

    Whats everyone using for amps?

Anything so long as it's tube and comes in under 5 watts. Enjoying the Vox AC4TV and Marshall Class 5 these days.

    Amp choices

Good advice this, for the most part anyways! Op is about a two hour drive from Dublin and there are only really 4 music stores worth seeing. Three are located on the same street in the city centre, while one is located about a 30 minute drive from there. Unfortunately, only one of four opens...

    Amp choices

No idea why such a list would be useless. It's a decidedly more refined option than coming out with 'The fender is a solid state amp, they're shit, don't buy one'. I'm actually a bit surprised that nobody has rowed in with this as yet.

    Amp choices

Well, assuming the 'apples and oranges' caveat above, I'd say you're on the right track with the Vox. Personally, I'd be inclined to push the boat out on an all-valve affair, something like the Marshall Class 5 with a half-decent OD pedal. With a high-gain bridge bucker, you can push these small...

    Amp choices

It's interesting to see a solid state up against a valve amp. I don't think it's exactly fair to compare like with like, and any venue where you need more than 30 valve watts will have a PA. I'd also disagree that the Solid State will react more 'powerfully' than a standard AC30 but I'm not sure...

Try as many as you can and be mindful of the fretwork. Also, check the finish around the body/neck join.

    First electric guitar help.

I'd go for a Pacifica over a Squier Tele. In terms of build-quality they're more than a step-above and the humbucker will give you that little bit more flexibility.

    Paging Muttley

Yeah, I'm sketchy on British folk but not that sketchy :D That's blasphemy! he'd have to leave his synths, drum machines and Lee Scratch Perry at the door! :)

    Position 2 on a Strat...

Its funny - two years + later and I've started to really embrace this philosophy. Since I got a little into SRV I've been camped way up in the neck position with a small valve amp and a touch of compression. It's a loose, almsot glassy tone. Love it!

    Paging Muttley

This makes me sad :( Acoustics are all well and good, but for trippy Pentangel-esque British folk, only a Les Paul will suffice. Possibly with some kind of Phaser-type thing... anyways, if you wont come to us, we'll come to you. See you in the acoustics forum!
