    Whats your guitar/amp setup?

Oh, and Monty, settle your ass down! bitch! I think your language towards me was uncalled for. I admit my post was a little on the cocky side, but that's what happens when I've had a few Heinekens and I get on the net, sorry....

    Whats your guitar/amp setup?

Okay, okay I'm going to order a POD right now! I'm happy to see that my ignorance and hostility evoked such passionate response. It's awesome!! Everyone made good points in the POD defense (except for the 311 comment). Go digital amp modeling! Die tubes! Modern technology rules! Yippeee!

    Whats your guitar/amp setup?

I like your style kid, but, it's all a question of style. That is , what one considers a hot setup depends on their style. I'm a Les Paul man myself (used for $850.00) but I'm sure a good surf or country player could wail on a Fender bullet and a Fender champ. I mean , tone starts in THE FINGERS...

ADA MP1 and MESA/BOOGIE Dual Rectifer question

I was thinking the same as electric acid. I was even thinking that you are joking and just trying to get a reaction out of us. I mean if your serious, then I think I've heard just about enough at this bbs.......

mixing down from a 4track to a cd recorder

It won't take up that much room, if you have a cd-rom drive now, just take it out and replace it with a cd-rw . It will take like fifteen seconds, it will come with instructions, and they only run like $150.00. You could always have the computer store do it for you. You'll save money and you'll...

Acoustic guitar recording - how to start?

A sm-57 is a good all purpose "dynamic" mic and is good for guitar amps and it will work for acoustic. But for acoustic recording you need to use a "condenser" mic for a more crisp reproduction and nuance. The rode NT1 mentioned above is a condenser and will sound a world better than the 57...

    Interfacing FD-8 w/ Computer

Usually your cd burner comes with Adaptec cd creator or something, that's all you need to burn. To record the wav file to your hard disk use any wav file recorder like the one that came with your computer or the one that came with your soundcard. You probably have all you need. As far as...

    Why direct box?

Jim is right, a DI box is an impedance transformer. One of the most common uses is live on stage when you want the bass guitar or keyboard to go direct to the house system. A pod, effects proccessor, etc. should be thought of as a preamp. A DI or direct box does not have amp sim or any other...

    FD8 digital vs analog?!

Actually, you may appreciate your sound even more on the fd-8 considering you use a digital processor. I think it sounds great, and one should definitely have a spdif optical input on your soundcard if you intend to mix down to your computer. I thought the mic pre amps were crap, but found out...

    Les Paul crackling-please help!

Thanks everyone for the replies, but what I did was lower the pick-ups a little bit. And it did the trick! Like I said,I definitely narrowed it down to the guitar - I tested cords, different amps, etc., and the wiring is solid. Weird, but it's gone. And like I mentioned before, it was very subtle.

    Poor recording sound

I think if you wanna be cheap about it go to Radio Shack (or a pawn shop) and buy one of of those little mic/line mixers. Download a shareware multitrack software program (like n-track). Keep your mic,or buy a better one at Radio Smack or something cheap. And mess around with recording both line...

    FD-8

Well, if you have 3 instruments and 4 vocalists. This makes 7 sounds , if you want to control each sound separately after the fact and mix it all down. They will need to be recorded on separate tracks. You do this by recording up to two parts at a time. For example, start with bass and drums on...

    FD-8

Are you really good? If your great at what you do I would say buy some great mics, mic preamp/preamps, and mix it down directly to digital, like your computer (with a great soundcard). This would take trial and error (and a mixer (digital or not (if you use a converter))) to achieve the right...

    Fostex xr-7

I really enjoyed my Portastudio, the xlr inputs were nice and it sounded great at double speed. With the dbx on those things, you just switch it to "on" the whole time. Dolby c is pretty bad, it just takes all the high end out. Anyway I can't believe I'm still talking about it. I mean , it's old...

    Fostex xr-7

Actually no, it may not be as good as the Tascam portastudio. My first 4-track was a fostex x-something. I've also owned two portastudios. If you want better sound in a cassette format you need to look for something that runs at double speed, 3 3/4 ips, as opposed to normal which is 1 7/8 ips...

    micing a stack

A SM57 should work fine. What are you recording into? What kind of stack? I use to record with a Marshall JCM900 (WLes Paul studio gtr.) and it sounded killer . In fact it didn't even matter how it was miked it just sounded kick ass. I got a lot of compliments on the guitar sound , when people...

    fd-8 bleed and noise

Any time you record on to an even # track you pan the input pan all the way right, an odd track all the way left. This way , you don't always have to plug in to the input channel# corresponding to the track # of which you wish to record on .( ex.: rec on trk2 (panned rght) from channel 8...

    Acoustic recording

Yes, I agree , experimentation is key. Working in the studio for me is like painting a picture. And sometimes you need to mix things up to find the right color. It just sounded to me that the topic starter had limited resources. And you would all agree that a mic/direct combo or mic only is...

    Acoustic recording

No, you should never record acoustic guitar with a pickup. What are you recording in to? If it's a multitracker it should have mic preamps of some sort built in and some kind of trim/gain control. A condenser mic of some sort would do. Audio Technica makes some great ones for around a $100.00 ...

    Normal vs. Master Formating

Honestly,no, I don't think so. My band mates and I couldn't hear the difference. The only thing you need to keep in mind is that cdr's play 44.1 So, if you are going to mix down digitally via your s/pdif optical out into an optical input in a souncard you will need to convert somewhere along the...
