    EV RE20 roll-off for kick?

Greetings all, I've got the use of a RE20 to do some recording of a rock cover band. It will be the best mic I'll have to use on the kick drum. The question I have is, do I want to use the built in high pass, or leave it flat? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Who are your favorite songwriters?

I'll second Fiona Apple. I also love the work of Emil Adler and Julie Flanders (October Project) I don't know off hand who did the songwriting but there was an indy band called Grey Eye Glances that wrote some really good songs

Why So Many Home Songs Suck

That pretty much says it. All hobbies are expensive, time consuming and fruitless. That's why they're called hobbies. I can't even recount the money I have spent on hobbies, from restoring sports cars and pinball machines, to playing music and home recording to, as a child, racing slot cars and...

Are you ever afraid of your house being burgled? (Don't know where to post this)

DP-24 Record capacity 8 tracks on SD card

Can any of you user/owners give me a handle on the record time a 16 or 32 gig card will yield? I would be looking to record 48k, 24 bit with 8 tracks to then export to DAW. Thanks in advance.

    "Processed" Vocals

I hear a lot of vocoder use in "dance" music these days. A lot of it very subtle, even just a phrase or two in a chorus.

Jazz and Blues Scat Singing and Growls

Hey, I really liked it! What ever you are doing, just keep at it. Unfortunately, that "growl" you want (I'm guessing that husky Ray Charles kind of thing) can only come with age and a few decades of straight whiskey and cigarettes. At least that's what worked for me ; )

    guitar string buzz

^ agreed, But if it's just one or two that would mess up an otherwise great take, look into Izotope Rx. It lets "see" the whole audio spectrum, isolate the squeak then you can just paint it out. I've done this a lot with car horns and such in tv stand ups. On the other hand the OP said string...

The Journey of the Engineer. I want to hear YOUR story.

I've had the bug since I read a home recording feature in stereo review magazine (US publication) in the 70's. They used a Tascam 8 track to record a jazz band. I'm both an amateur musician and recording enthusiast. My first rig was my grandfather's old 4 channel Dokorder reel to reel. You could...

Man. I miss the sound of a needle on a record....

If you miss so much (And I'm NOT trying to be a smart ass) Try recording the opening noise/clicks a couple of records and loop them together, then mix them in to a current project. Could be cool to have a retro LP mix.

Fixing up an old analog recording

I've had good success transferring the cassette to digital wav (I don't use the dolby) then use the de-noise function in Isotope Rx. If you are unfamiliar with it check it out. You select a short (1 sec. or so) section of the material that has nothing but the noise (tape hiss, hum whatever). It...
