How to compress two microphones on one source while tracking?

Thanks for the reply. 1) I get that it is going to be summed to mono but sometimes, I capture the guitar or other instruments using two microphones just to be able to blend the volume of the two to my liking not to really have it as a stereo signal which I pan one L and the other R. does that...

How to compress two microphones on one source while tracking?

Because then I could compress both channels as one signal? Is there never a time where that would be beneficial? That is the way I do it in my DAW and it sounds good so I just wanted to recreate this in the tracking phase if that makes sense. Also, I could get a mixer for 50 euro or so and a...

How to compress two microphones on one source while tracking?

Thanks for the reply. I understand. If I was only going to pan both signals to the same place, then could I use different settings on each compressor in mono? Also, is there no way to combine the signals by using a small mixer and then I can just compress the one signal with a mono compressor...

How to compress two microphones on one source while tracking?

I have a mono compressor which I like to use in my signal chain while tracking acoustic guitar but as time goes by I find myself recording guitar using a spaced pair of SDC's and now I am looking for the ability to compress both signals together before my signals hit my DAW. Up until now, when...

I was hoping to get more educated answers on this thread (no offense to anyone) but it seems all you guys are just guys trying to make music which is awesome but maybe this is not the right forum. Does anybody know...

use of vowels when writing songs

well that is a very common word on big notes...just think Whitney houston... and I will always love you. I think that I is what made her career. I is an open vowel but it is actually a dipthong because it is "AH" and "EE" at the same time. If you sing it, you need to sustain the "AH" part then...

use of vowels when writing songs

You are very right... you can modify the ee vowel somewhat and it sounds good but up to a certain point. If you want a long sustained ee vowel best use it lower in your range from what I can see in other pro singers

use of vowels when writing songs

I think most good singers know this and choose their vowels accordingly. It can't just be a coincidence. Also consonants are very important. for example, using the "m" consonant in a word can bring out a lot of resonance which sounds good whereas a word with "p" might sound bad becuase it is a...

use of vowels when writing songs

When you sing in your passaggio or "bridge" you modify vowels. From what I understand, if you sing closed vowels you will start to modify them sooner than the open vowels so this is why I guess the open vowels are saved for higher up. Is this reasoning right?

use of vowels when writing songs

I am a baritone and want to write my own songs but am struggling to understand how to make use of vowels in my bridge. I notice that singers whose voices I study that have similar voices use very open vowels on the higher notes of chest voice or in their bridge. This is especially proved true...

How to treat a tracking room for guitar and vocal

Oh and perhaps I should mention The treatments on the walls and in the cloud are double sheets of rigid fiberglass (8 - 9cm in total). The only place I am not using rigid fiberglass is in the superchunk bass traps in the corners as I mentioned above. That is a denser material

How to treat a tracking room for guitar and vocal

Yes I know they don't but the material I used is much more dense than normal rigid fiberglass. It is called "Copopren" and in Spain it is an acoustic absorption material that is superior to Rockwool or rigid fiberglass. I only had that quantity so I used it as best I could. For listening, I...

How to treat a tracking room for guitar and vocal

THanks! I will try that MP3 Clinic. Sounds great. I have spent months on micing my acoustic guitar and it is ok but this room is intended for listening not for tracking. So since they are different, they would require different treatment. Most studios I have worked in have rooms this size or a...

How to treat a tracking room for guitar and vocal

Hi all! I am trying to record guitar and vocals in a 16 X 10 X 8ft space but the results are not what I am looking for.... yet. I want to invest some cash into the room to make it professional sounding but not sure what it needs. Given the dimensions, I am not really thinking a "live" space is...

Hardware necessary for professional sounding acoustic guitar and vocals

thanks and you are 100% right, if I could record the songs professionally I should already have such gear at my disposal and would have to have fine tuned my engineering skills. To answer your question, yes I would definitely get hardware... studios that cost $100 000 and up do cost that for a...

Hardware necessary for professional sounding acoustic guitar and vocals

I knew that this would be a first reply... Probably should have added this in previous post but lets just assume that I had the knowledge and that was not a factor.... then would you buy the gear or go to a studio with the $3000? Thanks for input!
