Yup, every mix that has sounded good on my monitors has sounded great in the car, earbuds, headphones, etc.

The only issue with this strategy is you have no frame of reference for "sucks". Have you heard good monitors in a decently setup music/mixing room? Do you know what you're listening for to determine the 'sucks' qualifier?
