Lets see... you have a shaker a tamb. and you play gtr. Well
try turning your gtr upside down and playing it like a hand drum to get the basic groove. Then add the shaker and tamb. The idea with the plastic garbage can is a good one to. Also you could on a pass or two slow down or speed up the...
I think 37point5 has got the right idea.
I have dine the same thing. You give the singer a dummy mic to hold onto and move with and have the live mic out a few inches away.
This helps the singer get into it a little more. Anyway, what would be the point of stereo micing a single lead vocal track?
Hey Professa,
I agree with the compression ratios,2:1,3:1,but depending on the rapper don't be suprised if you use a little more than that. Don't be afraid to squeeze the vocals. This only applies to rap. Given the mic,SM58, and the dynamics usually involved with the vocals,it helps sit the vox...
Cool! You have a Virus b? Me to. I love it.
It was a bitch to get a hold of. It took about 2 and1/2 months to get one. Anyway, about your question. Try the procussion first. Find a triangle sound and lower the pitch and shorten the decay and sustain times. That is about as close as you are going...
Hey there Mr. Kelly!
Normally I am not a big fan of running gtr direct. But it depends on the situation and what fx you have the gtr going through and that sort of thing. You can go DI with gtr but keep in mind the sound is going to be missing attitude. Take away the amp and you take away the...
I have been known to mic things using some walkie-talkies from Toys-r-Us.
Put one in a chair with a mic on it and use the other one to send or create whatever noise your little heart desires.
Bleach
Sonusman,excellant commentary.
The only thing I would add to the vocal question would be to try cutting a few db at about 600hz, that seem to be a magic freq.
for getting rid of some of that woofy low-mid crap, not only on vocals but alot of other things as well. Then try a couple db or so...
I wouldn't,if I could help it,use a 57 or 58 on the kick. They are fine on snares and toms but I would go for a larger diaphram mic for the kick. Personally I like the RE-20. Thats the mic most radio DJs' use to give their voice more balls. It kinda does the same thing for kick. I like it a...
Hey Slakmaster2k!
How did your gtr thing come out? Did you end up using it? It sounds like it was pretty cool. As for that track, it isn't mixed yet. It's part of an album that is in progress, but as soon as it is done I will let you know where you can hear it if you'd like.
Keep the stories...
I was just wondering what's the most
un-conventional way any of you guys or gals
(that would be cool if there were any)
have recorded something to tape? Drums, vox,
gtr...whatever. I will go first to get things started..
The most recent was drums. I made the drummer set up in the parking lot...
You might take a look at the Launch Pad by EMU. There is alot of things you can do with it and one of them is assign pitch control to one of the wheels. It has 4 or 5 sliders, 2 wheels and tape transport controls all of which are assignable to do whatever you want.
You can use it to run your...
Hey man!
I don't know if you are or not, but, start playing along with the track before the punch. So, you are not waiting for the punch to happen and then you start playing. That should cover the hole. Do the same thing for the punch out. Don't stop playing until the punch is done. Also, check...
