    neve

How is it a misrepresentation if Neve actually designed some of the focusrite and Amek stuff? I understand the whole vintage phat sounding dark neve, but pigeon holing the man's gear to one sonic tone isn't fair IMHO.

    Optical Compressors

TUbe tech CL1b, La2a, Buzz Soc 1.1, 1176ln, dbx 160xt, distressor... the last 3 aren't optical but still kick ass as a bass compressor

    neve

I was thinking the same thing but his Amek offerings weren't ridiculously priced. But then again sonically the amek rackmount offerings supposedly fell short of his reputation.

    Best Pre with SPDIF out

most people would send the preamp out put directly to tape(hard disc). So if you can bypass the firepod pre's that would be desirable.. Other then that your probably right.

    which compressor

If your mixer has inserts you get a Y adapter that splits to tip and ring....plug the tip to the tip portion fo the rnc then connect the ring portion to the ring portion of the RNC. If your mixer doesn't have inserts you'll have to run the output of the mixer into the in and the out of the RNC...

    Dual core and dual processingmachines

Go for the dual processor if you like doing multiple things while Mixing, tracking, mastering. If you don't it won't be a problem. Thats where I miss my old Dual AMD machine. I have a faster Athlon 64 but can't multitask worth a damn when I'm mixing. :(

    compressor

Compression in recording, is almost as essential as panning and faders. The effect of compression used properly would be a more professional sounding mix.

    Doubling without phase?

??? I do this all the time as long as the 2 parts are in time with each other...its nothing fancy... If you are using a Computer S/W if you have one that as ADC(Automatic Delay Compensation) you don't have to worry about phase from copying tracks
  17. Teacher

Are there any decent AD/DAs for under $1000

If you lucky maybe you can find the Lucid 8824 for about that price

    dbx 160A

compressor/limiter actually 160xt is great for squashing drums busses and getting some mid punch but be careful cuz it can fuck up a mix too and muddy up the kick... IME

    What's That Cool Delay Effect.....

They probably made him adlib all the last rhyming words of each bar and added a delay to it. I don't have the track in front of me so i'm not sure but thats probably it. The reason yours doesn't sound like his is because he has engineers who know what they are doing with thousands of dollars...
