    Too controversial for 2008?

Controversial is the new "black" for the season. It looks good on you!

    Adding pre recorded Drums

Buy a Cajon drum for bass and snare drum-like sounds. You can get some drum set-like sounds out of these things...I use them exclusively to play out live with, as well as record. It does the trick, and eliminates that "canned-drum" sound that ANY true professional can spot a mile away. I use...

Anyone ever heard of sending songs to yourself for copyright?

Sure, you could contact a music attorney, but I found all of the information and instructions on the U.S. Copywrite Office's website. Gotta love the information age. This stuff isn't required to be blessed by ninjas or lawyers;) If you took the time to record and write it yourself, then you...

Do you believe in writer's block?

I do see what people consider writer's block, but I think that we all deviate emotionally at times, and it's a matter of knowing your own rhythmn. I just allow the down time, and recognize the artistic merit in all...good and bad. Documentation is key.

Do you believe in writer's block?

I don't believe in writer's block. I find inspiration in literature, art, performance, people, and the world around us. I always carry a pen and a Moleskine Cahier notebook bound with a little Gaffer's Tape to protect it from the rigors of my back pocket. Balances out the wallet on the other...

Anyone ever heard of sending songs to yourself for copyright?

I found that the form PA from the US Copywrite Office is great for only wanting to spend $45 per "album" versus per song. Just list the title of the work "Unpublished Collection", and then name the individual songs in the Previous or Alternative Title section. Not all of the forms have an area...

ART Tube MP Studio Mic Preamp

I love these things...I'm on my second one in 6 years! It does fatten up everything that I put through it. No noise to be found on either of my units.

    Rickenbacher Bass Question

Sweet. Thanks for all of the info, guys. I just talked to him, and he said the his G string is coming hrough VERY weak in the mix, and it looks like the string saddle is already lowered. It will have to be set up. Nice bass...his GF got it for him for X-Mas. @ $1500 it was a steal. Lovely...

What order do you record instruments when multitracking?

Scratch vox and guitar with click track. Then it's on to drums. Bass. Guitar. Vocals erase over scratch track. Add other elements where applicable.:)

    Rickenbacher Bass Question

My bass player uses a Richenbacher 4003 bass. What is the story with the stereo output? Is one treble and the other bass? Is one left and the other right? It's amazing how putting an extra hole in something can cause so much confusion.

    Cajon

My bass player built one with scrap wood, and it sounds great. You just need to tweak them to get them to sound right...as with anything.

    Cajon

Last spring I became interested in the Afro-Peruvian-Cuban influenced percussive instrument known as a Cajon. It has two distinct sounds that are comparable to a bass and snare drum. It has a variety of sounds based on how you play it. It's like drumming your hands on a desk. It's basically...

    Good sites for unsigned artists?

TerraMortim and ILoveJesus are both spot on. Myspace may be saturated with kids with stars in there eyes, but it is a great way to let the public know what you're about, hear your songs, give you comments, and you can send out bulletins to let people know when you're performing or that you...
