    Running a 38 through a 388's mixer...help??

Sorry man. Was trying to get some sort of progress in the small amount of free time I had to had today. Seems that the labelling on the DX-4D is a little misleading. Reminds me of the older Pioneer stereo components. LOL I'll see if I can get it straightened out the next time I get in...

    Running a 38 through a 388's mixer...help??

Gaaaaaahhhh I think I'm just going to pull out the 16x8x2 board out of the closet and work with it for now. At least that way I can narrow down if I'm doing anything wrong up to the point of input on the mixer. Something else: is it possible to have meter readings on a channel on the 38...

    Running a 38 through a 388's mixer...help??

a quick little update... For giggles and grins, I decided to totally bypass the DX-4Ds, since this is A) the first time I've hooked them up since I got them (I know Cory, I know:p), and B) just to make sure I was setting things correctly on the 388. Now, I've got channel 1 working like it...

    Running a 38 through a 388's mixer...help??

Ok Cory. I rerouted the cabling. 38 > DX-4D (for decoding the Channel #1 encoded on the TSR-8) > 388 I ran channels 1 - 4 into the ENCODE IN of the DX-4D, and the DECODE OUT to the LINE IN of the 388. That is the first 4 channels (since TSR-8 does 4 at a time of dbx). I ran channels 5 - 8...

    Running a 38 through a 388's mixer...help??

Thanks Cory! I knew you would have something to say about it.:D The one thing I made sure of was that the 38 was in monitoring off the REPRO. I had a hunch about that and ran with it. I'll be swapping out the snakes and just running into the LINE IN of the 388. I was originally thinking...

    Running a 38 through a 388's mixer...help??

I put together an impromptu recording session with my guitar instructor to test out what it would sound like in that particular room. I ran two condenser mics into the M-2515, and then fed it into the TSR-8. I ran one channel (channel 1) with dbx, and the other channel (#5) without dbx, just...

    Analog in the digital age

As I sit here at the tire shop waiting for a tire to be repaired on my truck, I'm surfing between this site and TH from my cell phone. It suddenly dawns on me the irony of this scenario. It strikes me that I am one of a small hand full of individuals who has a passion for analog gear. What...

    388 Dbx

I agree that dbx isn't always needed. If you are recording material that doesn't have quiet passages near the noise floor, dbx isn't really necessary. If you've got some pauses or quiet (relatively) acoustic stuff going on, dbx can keep the hiss from being front and center.;)

Blew a channel on my mixer (M-520)

This saddens me. Take a perfectly good board and blow it the hell up.:p Just giving you a hard time LoFi.:D I'll gladly take it off your hands if you feel it is too big of a repair for you.:D

    tascam 388 not playing

We've all been there man.;) Call Tascam tomorrow and order the belt. Most likely, by the end of the week you can drop the new belt on and be ready for the weekend! As a side note, have you taken a good look at your rubber pinch roller? I'm beginning to think that one should change both at...

    tascam 388 not playing

I haven't opened my 388 up yet, but I'm going to assume it is a 3 motor deck. It sounds like you may have a bad belt. Either it dryrotted and broke apart, stretched a bit and won't grab the flywheel/pulley, or it turned to goo. It's just an assumption, but probably the most likely culprit if...

    Seeking mixer for Tascam 38

I have a Tascam M-2516 (16x8x2 config) mixer. All in/out are on top. Each channel has direct out and tape in. It has served me well and you should be able to find one under $500 I think the M-1516 is the same, but with 4 buss vs. the 2516 having 8 buss. I don't know how the mic pres stack...

    Tascam 32 belt change

Wow Patlaw, can't believe I haven't answered this yet. You can call Teac/Tascam parts and order a new belt. Better order a new pinch roller while you are at it, just in case. The head stack and flywheel have to be pulled out of the way in order to slip the belt onto the backside of the...

    Found a local Tascam MS16

Hell, I get that with cassettes, since I'm not sitting on a stockpile of thousands of them, unlike some other nameless individuals in this forum.:p It's a pain to find good Type II cassettes at a price that doesn't leave me feeling brutally violated.
