    1st real attempt

Thanks guys! Greg, it's actually via my US-1641 into my laptop with Reaper. I used some outboard effects (lightly) on the vocals, snare, and cymbals. The guitars and bass were kind of hard to gauge for me. Depending on the pedal in use, it goes up and down in the mix. As for the bass, it...

    1st real attempt

I'm working on recording some friends and this is the most cohesive take we've gotten so far. It's still a bit rough. There was alot of construction going on in the studio that day so everyone (including me) was tired. I broke up the bandmates in order to record them and it threw them for a...

Murder at the Drive-In - Greg_L homicidal original idiocy

One word... fucking awesome! Ok, so I can't count. LOL It sounds great Greg! Is this the stuff you guys play on the other side of town? If so, I definitely need to get my ass out there for one of your gigs.:D The only question I have is how did you get the kick to be so punchy? EQ and...

    Tascam MD-801R(mkII) eject problem

I've also liked the MD format for some time. I've got a portable recorder that I used to capture some live stuff with, and then the Sony deck to capture the guitar practice sessions. Never had a problem with the sound. I've got a DA88 that I need to have worked on and I'd like to see how well...

    Tascam 488 album

Just two words... Freakin' awesome! Now that is very impressive to me, considering I couldn't even do that with digital.:o

    Tascam MD-801R(mkII) eject problem

Thanks Vessel! I know the Sony deck transports are garbage, but I thought the Tascam decks would be fairly robust. That sucks that nobody is immune to the MD transport failure, other than maybe Denon. I talked to a gentleman who used to work for Teac and he said the transports on the 801...

    Tascam products with windows 7?

I bought a US-800 and it does NOT work with Win7, it even says so on an addendum included with the manual. I took it back and got a US-1641 and it works beautifully with Win7. Kind of odd that a new product wouldn't have drivers for a current OS.

    ROFL 388 on eBay

I bought one off epay and realized that it had a dsub connection on the end instead of the stock plug on the end. Pretty useless to me. Guess I'll have to hunt for another one.

    ROFL 388 on eBay

I just want the remote to the 388.:D That particular 388 wouldn't be bad as a parts machine. There are TWO 388s for sale (same CL listing) in Dallas, one working and one parts machine.

    Kind of a newb question

Good point. I did alright on my first recording, it's just a bit different trying to do a mix down and not hitting "0" vs. pushing +3 or +6 on tape. Just figured if I hit about 3:1 ratio coming into Reaper, maybe it would squash it a little bit, but not enough to make it sound dull. Gonna...

    Kind of a newb question

I've recently started recording with Reaper (other than just tinkering with it) and have a question or two. While I record, should I have the ReaComp set up for the bass track or does it even do such a thing during recording? I'm not sure if it's a mix only type of plugin or not. I'm new to...

"What am I gonna do with all this crap?" -- Tales of a Recovering Gear-A-Holic

The sad part is I've actually contemplated trying to do that and turning around and selling the stuff for the "current market" price. I realized that it would a huge waste of my time and money, not to mention the already limited square footage in the house.

"What am I gonna do with all this crap?" -- Tales of a Recovering Gear-A-Holic

I guess now that I have a minute to breathe, I'll post up my .02 I've always been a recording "enthusiast" as a kid growing up. My parents had a cool quad stereo with the turntable to match, so I got to listen to some cool recordings and always great music. As I got a little older and...

    Going from TSR-8/38 w/ M2516 into a US-1641

I'll have to look into that one Cory. Thanks for the tip. For the immediate moment, I'm trying to figure out why the session I recorded on Sunday sounds so muddy. I wrestled around for about 45 minutes trying to troubleshoot why I wasn't getting half the signals into the board and finally...

    Going from TSR-8/38 w/ M2516 into a US-1641

I gave $200 for it. It is barely used and came with all paperwork, cables, software, etc. I guess I can always use it here at the house for my personal stuff if all else fails. I was wondering about a US-428 but know virtually nothing about it, other than it is a bit older of an interface...

    Going from TSR-8/38 w/ M2516 into a US-1641

Thanks Cory. I was looking at the mic level inputs on the front and wondering about that. I love this interface and you are right, it is very stable. What we are intending to do is having an "always on" type of option for digital. Most of the stuff we will be recording will be to digital...

    Tascam MD-801R(mkII) eject problem

I've got a MD-801R(mkII) deck that has worked pretty well until recently. I've noticed that it struggles to eject (and sometimes load) a MD. I've popped the top on the deck and given a gentle boost to the guides as it loads/ejects and it works fine. Playback/recording still work perfectly...

    Going from TSR-8/38 w/ M2516 into a US-1641

I know this should probably go in the "Tascam" forum, but I figure I might get better response from the seasoned recordists here.:p I just obtained a Tascam US-1641. I installed the drivers and hooked it up to my laptop, tested it with Reaper, and it works beautifully. Now, comes the...
