Can a Tascam 388 be used as a mixer for another tape machine?

Offhand, I don't remember exactly how I had my 38 hooked up to the 388. I do remember that the one thing that you MUST NOT DO is to have your 38 set in REPRO mode when recording through the 388. You'll get a huge feedback loop that will most likely toast an opamp. Here is my thread on the...

Boss GT70 vs. Vox Tonelab EX

What do you guys think is a better overall package: Boss ME-70 or VOX Tonelab EX? I've got the ME-70 and have enjoyed it, but something about a tube driven amp modeler appeals to me. I've heard some of the various distortions through the Tonelab and I must say I like 'em. There are also more...

URGENT: Cassette tape to Tascam digital portastudio?

Stevie, SJ, the only problem I see with going with another deck is the fact that the tapes were initially recorded on said boombox. If the azimuth was off on it, how would the tapes sound on a different deck vs. the initial boombox? Blondie, look on Craigslist to see what you can find near...

Why do you record in analogue?

I agree to some extent that .wav isn't going anywhere. However, it is the medium that it is stored on that I worry about. Face it, hard drives have failed while sitting on a shelf, CDs/DVDs have an unknown shelf life, and flash media (USB drives, SSD, etc.) are a big unknown as well. Either...

URGENT: Cassette tape to Tascam digital portastudio?

Yes. Follow rayc's advice, except you will have to have (2) 1/4" to go into the DP-02 instead of the computer. Once you have everything connected properly, you will work on setting your levels and from there you should be good to go and record into the DP-02.

Why do you record in analogue?

Quite simply, I record in analog because I like the sound of it. I also am mesmerized by the reel spinning as I listen back to what I've put down. I love pulling a reel of tape out of the box, pulling it from the plastic bag, lining up the hub on the reel table, spooling the leader through the...

    just acquired- TEAC A-4300

I've got the A-4300SX. I don't know what the difference the "SX" version makes, but I like the deck alot. I just have to send the pinch roller out to Terry in the not too distant future to have it reworked. It's a bit hard, but haven't noticed any slipping. You'll love it.;)

    External Editor...do you use one?

Me too! I've still got my old "go to" Sound Forge 4.0 and 4.5. Remember when it was a Sonic Foundry product before Sony?

    Tascam DP-004

I think 32gb is the largest you can use. There is a list of tested/suggested cards on Tascam's website. I think the DP-004 breaks the card up into 4 GB partitions anyway, so that will be your limitation. I personally like my DP-004, but for a few bucks more you can get a DP-008 which has 4...

Tascam us-122 mk2 in Cubase 5-Windows 7 64 midi timing playback timing issues

I'm not familiar with the software for the US-122, but if it's anything like it's bigger brother, the US-1641, you should be able to adjust the latency settings and come up with a workable solution. That's all I can really think of at the moment.

    New Behringer vs Vintage Tascam

Oh don't get me wrong Tim, I'd take a beat-to-hell Mackie over any Behringer, any day. I've grown to be a bit of a Tascam fanatic, so that is what I usually go with nowadays. Well, other than the Studiomaster which sounds oh so nice.

    New Behringer vs Vintage Tascam

Oh, if those are the companies then, I'm not concerned with it. I'll stick with my Tascam and Soundmaster boards.

    1/2 inch VHS tape and a reel-to-reel

I didn't even think about the length of tape vs. tape speed Miroslav. Great point!

    New Behringer vs Vintage Tascam

Didn't Behringer just buy out another company recently? I was thinking it was a notable audio equipment company. Not that any of Behringer's equipment would immediately benefit from the acquisition, but maybe something to watch for in the next year or two??

    1/2 inch VHS tape and a reel-to-reel

Interesting thought for sure. Don't know how abrasive the tape is vs. standard audio tape. Got me curious now. Hehe

    Dp-02 vs DP-03

There was a DP-02CF version that used the CF cards. I have one and haven't had any problems out of it. In order to transfer files to the computer, you will have to use the USB as One Guy said above. Once you export your tracks in the DP-02, you can connect the USB cable up, select "Yes" on...

Can't Import WAV. File Onto Tascam DP-004

Make sure the mono .wav file is 44.1/16 format. If it's anything other than that, it won't see it to import.

TDK SA90 still available through OfficeMax???

I have used the XLII about 99% of the time over the last 20 or so years. I never had any real complaints about it. Now that most jokers want about $10/tape for the XLII, I have to run with the SA90 until I find a cheaper source of the Maxell. My tapes from OfficeMax just arrived. They are...
