    Tascam 388 issue...part 2

I'm betting on bad caps... If I remember correctly, the guy I bought it from said it hasn't been used that much. It was moved around more than anything. I'd be willing to bet that the caps probably went bad from lack of use. I'll do more in depth diagnostic over the latter part of the...

    Tascam 388 issue...part 2

Ok, this is more or less a continuation of https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=310516 After doing some more tinkering with the 388, I've noticed that nothing will pan to the right, it just mutes everything. I've got both of the master buss faders up and the channels assigned...

What sweetbeats has been up to anyway...

Oh wow, you must have posted the pics of the fire while I made my last post. AWESOME! There is a little pyro in all of us.:p

What sweetbeats has been up to anyway...

That is awesome Cory! Looking great. I bet it's a nice change of pace from being down in some tiny electrical components, huh?:p Glad you overcame the obstacles and were able to get it finished up. You know we'll be expecting photos of the finished studio, right?:D

    Pre-amp for DP-02 ?

Sorry, just saw this post. You should be able to find the specs on Tascam's website. I would use at least the given amperage or higher. I do believe you are correct on the 12V. I think you can even order the power supplies for fairly cheap too, direct from Tascam.

    Favorite 1/2" machines

If the TSR-8 had 3 heads and analog meters, I would say it would be damn near the perfect 1/2" machine. Instead, I've got a 38 and a TSR-8. These are 8 track decks. I can't really afford to step up to 1" tape, so 1/2" is the pinnacle of my little studio. I've also got a 388, which is 8...

    Pre-recorded open reel tape prices...

Does anyone have any idea what the price of a prerecorded reel was back when they were in production? I'm curious as how the cost of buying an album on reel differed from buying it's vinyl counterpart. Makes me wonder what the cost would be today. I know TTP has their 15 ips. albums for about...

    Tascam 424mk3 and seperate mixer?

A 424 will definitely make you THINK about how you are going to approach a recording. It's not the machine that's difficult, but training yourself to get into a routine where you aren't bouncing a whole lot. More tracks make it easier, but once you've mastered the recording process on a 424...

What is your favorite cassette to record on?

Unfortunately my 2006 Titan only has a CD player in it. When my Buick died, that's when I lost the cassette player in my vehicle. I've still got ALL of my old cassettes. I've got them stashed away in a couple of plastic totes in my closet. I've already transferred some of the more memorable...

What is your favorite cassette to record on?

Wow, first off I'm blown away that the one deck you DON'T have is a 122.:p I've got the 122b and love it. I too got started on the old boombox back in the day. I wish I still had that thing, it sounded great. I've still got the "live" recordings that my friends and I did on that thing...

What is your favorite cassette to record on?

I've always recorded on XL-II and XL-IIS. I've pushed the levels way beyond sane levels and the Maxell never distorted. Part of it is probably the deck, but I attribute a good portion of it to the tape. I recorded on some Fuji ZR-II and it was okay, just wasn't around long. I've got a few SA...

Tascam serial numbers...anybody know anything about them?

Somebody call Jim Finch at Tascam and pose the question to him. He would probably have a more concise answer. I've been curious about my S/N on my machines. So short .

    388 mic pres

That would be quite the project, Tim.:p You would definitely be making a custom case with a custom meter bridge for sure.:D Cory, I did another test recording with my guitar instructor today. I used the same setup (M-2516 -> TSR-8), but without dbx NR. I brought the tape home and dropped...

    388 mic pres

ARE FREAKIN' AWESOME!:D Now, having made that statement, let me clarify. I haven't done any real recording with the 388 as of yet. I've piddled around with stuff here and there, but nothing substantial. However, I got curious tonight about my SM7b mic. My (favorite, for now) M-2516 needed...

    mixer reccomendations

Pardon my ignorance here, but am I correct in assuming that a 320B board is (more or less) a newer version of the 520? As much as I would LOVE to get my hands on a 520, if the 320 is a newer style board with similar/better capabilities, I'll know what to look for when I get to that...

    Running a 38 through a 388's mixer...help??

Alright Cory. I've had a little time to reconnect everything properly. Unfortunately, I think there is a problem of sorts with the 388. I never could get anything to pan to the right. If I listen to a tape in the 388 itself, everything is fine, but running a deck externally, it seems...
