    Grand Piano Recording

There was a mic shootout done on GS about this very subject with nothing less than shocking results IMO. I know own a pair of the winning mics and you can too. Here is a link that sets up the the shootout - Award-winning microphone engineering from Michael Joly. at the bottom of this article...

Take two. Added a bit more effects on the snare and some volume automation. Feedback apprciated. Thanks

    Dark Horses

Thanks I appreciate your comments. The vocal is a bit dry but I hadn't hit on the right mix of reverb and delay. Diffinately need a bit more work. Drum recording was actually not that great and in fact has some phase issues especially with the room mic. Still working on it but thanks again...

    Dark Horses

Thanks for the feedback. I agree with you the mix is pretty static and could definitely use some automation. I do greatly appreciate you taking the time to listen and comment. Thanks

    Dark Horses

Been a while since I posted here and thought I'd put this up. Didn't track the song only mixed. Appreciate your comments and recommendations. https://www.dropbox.com/s/2fzrg4y982p8ujf/Dark%20Horses.mp3?dl=0 Thanks

    Alesis microverb 4

No offense but why are you buying the miroverb? If you just want/need reverb you can get much better, IMO, verbs from plug-ins than the microverb.

Been using a pair or a while and I have to say for the price they are outstanding.

Drum miking suggestings for home-rec drummers and wannabe engineers

First rule of drumming; beat the f@#k out of the drums they always sound better. It will impress the shit out of your friends and more importantly, chicks love it.

Recording drums, help me mic my drum kit

Cool. Bottom line is try EVERYTING! :D I've even tried sticking a mic in a metal bucket but there was beer involved in that one :drunk:.

Recording drums, help me mic my drum kit

In your case, the Fatheads will be darker and with the different mic method you get a completely different image of the kit. Processing varies depending on the song.

Recording drums, help me mic my drum kit

Sure let me see if I can explain. Mic on kick and snare are self explanatory. First I use SDC setup in Recorderman. Measure the distance of the OHs to the drums. Then I set up another set of mics (ribbons usually but could be any mic -if not using ribbons LDC are my choice) . I position...

Recording drums, help me mic my drum kit

I use both recorderman and Glyn Johns together all the time. I'd use the Oktava's in recorderman and set up the fat heads in Glyn Johns. Mic snare & kick and you've covered most everything with only 6 channels. Important to pay attention to phase but as long as you set the Glyn Johns at some...

    Ny comp on drums

My take on NY style Compression on drums I buss the entire kit including effects. If your mixing in the box and massive crush is desired, I found now better compressor than 112db Big Blue; it makes drums sound huge.

    Suggest a compressor/limiter for less than $100?

No offense but $80 doesn't buy you that many eggs to worry about. On that note: if you can solder and are willing to undertake easy mod projects you could pick up (here comes the groans) an Alysis 3630 on eBay really cheap. I can't believe I actually recommend someone buy a 3630 :eek...

    Rate my new funk rock!

All the delay and reverb is distracting and takes focus away from the song. Backing of all the delay and reverb would be the first thing I'd start with.

New mix of an old tune

Here's a mix of an old recording done (not by me) in 1975. Used this song to test a free plug-in from Eventide. Feedback appreciated https://www.dropbox.com/s/d52185bcnnd5nz2/Revelations_Mix2.mp3

guitars and bass in a mix

Really no way to answer your question without hearing the tracks in the context of the tune you're trying to mix. Suggest posting the tracks in the MP3 forum or better yet post in the Mix This forum.

Engineers, your guidance on mixing to artists

Advise: Just quit now and save yourself a lot of aggravation. As for some philosophy; stay out of the pool during a lightening storm and one of my all time favorites...sometimes less is more but more is always more. Sorry couldn't help myself.:D As far as your question, my answer is...
